Why does bottled water have an expiration date on it???

it's because all bottled water still has impuirities and contain some bacteria/ foreign agents that will over time make it unsafe for drinking.

Covered a long time ago... well 6 months maybe. Stuff grows in it and the plastic will leech into it over time.

Leave a bottle of water out in the sun for a long enough period, and I bet that the water inside will eventually turn some shade of green.

Thats not the answer to your question, but should get you thinking in the right direction.

i read in a magazine that the British Dasani water bottler was sued or shut down or something because they were filling the bottles straight from the tap

dont know if thats true though

Dasani is 'Coca Colas' 'bottled water'. It is basically from the tap with a bunch of filters used to filter out stuff.

Who the hell buys that?!

I'll stick with Sainsbusy own brand mineral water or tap water around my house. My tap water tastes nice 😀

Dasani is owned by coke and which consisted of nothing more then filtered tap water. The reason it was pulled from britixh shelves was that the water was contaminated with a cancer causing chemical.

Because after a certain amount of time, it turns into booze.

The alcohol makers got together with the water bottlers and made an agreement. Because if the truth got out, the alcohol makers would be screwed.

If the tap water tastes fine, there is no reason to filter it. Tap water is more tightly regulated, and safer than bottled water. I've been drinking unfiltered tap water for 37 years (with a brief break when I lived on Hilton Head Island, that water was nasty) and I'm fine.

Drinking bottled water also denies you the benefit of Fluoride. It is well known that areas with no fluoridated water have a much higher incidence of tooth decay than those with fluoridated water.

And you are correct. Bottled water is a major scam

It isn't a scam, it's a bet that 2 executives had with each other.
"I'll bet you a dollar that if we bottled the water we use in our soda, we could sell it for just as much as the soda, if not more. The public is just that stupid. Those that do buy it will eventually justify their need to not feel like morons by stating that 'it's the convenience' while complete discarding the fact that we can sell it for more than the soda, which you know, costs 10 times as much to manufacture."
"you're on."

The rest is history.

Well, there are plenty of cities where the water tastes like crap or like Milwaukee, they literally just dump the crap into our water supply.

Most people who claim their tap water tastes bad cannot tell the difference if you bottle it up, chill it, and serve it to them as if it were bottled water.

Penn and Teller did a hilarious example of this on the show, "Bullsh!t." They did a blind taste test using Los Angeles Tap water out of a garden hose, bottled up to look like exclusive bottled water. The majority picked the tap water as tasting the best.

However, I do agree that is some cases, especially those in which the tap water is well water high in sulfer, tap water can taste awful. In those cases, these people can fix it easily with a filter system.

The #1 reason for the dates on it is lot control and tracking. If they were to find a problem, they know which bottles are okay and which are suspect.

Bottled/filtered water tastes better because it's cold. Keep a pitcher of tap water in your refrigerator and it will taste just as good.
