Why does baseball include hits and errors in the main score?

It's more of a box score detailed stat, and it really isn't necessary (from a final score standpoint).

Is it just something they did since the beginning of baseball time and they stuck with it?
Or is there a good reason behind it?

i don't know about errors...but it is interesting to know if a pitcher has a no hitter going for him.

most likely tradition. Can't think of any real reason as to why someone would HAVE to know how many hits and errors were made in the game.

I'm not sure of the exact reason, probably because it's been done that way for a long, long time. Those three stats also let you know if Perfect Game is intact or not.

Baseball is a boring game they need things to talk about while nothing is happening.

It doesn't show walks, so it's only good for no-hitters.
And no-hitters only happen a handful of times per season so it's not really too important.

Hits & errors in addition to the score tell you more about a game than the score itself. In a close game, an error can be the difference between winning & losing. Hits vs runs tell you if a pitcher's on his game or not.

Odd then that you're here posting about it rather than clicking back, or not clicking on a baseball thread at all in the first place

baseball is the best game to go watch because you don't need to constantly keep your eyes on a moving object to know what is going on.

Now, I wouldn't call it edge of your seat action, but it's a lot more exciting than watching basketball, where the ball goes back and forth nearly 100 times, maybe more, and either goes in a basket or misses that basket.

But to each his own.
