Why does Bas Rutten strike with open palm?

He is right. And besides his open palm strikes were enough to put Frank Shamrock in a world of pain.
 
haha I remember watching a video where he is sparring with one of his students as part of a workout. Then BOOM he knocks the guy out. Accidentally. 😛
