Why does ATI Tool cause my video card to make noises?

When I scan for artifacts or play Crysis, it's fine.

When I Show 3D View (1300FPS), I notice a low-to-high whining noise from my 8800GTS 640.

Turn the 3D View off and I hear nothing.

Why???

Those cards will screech if they don't get enough power, but if you're gaming with it okay then it seems that wouldn't be the issue. What PSU do you have?

Seem's to me, in 3D mode...the fan may be spinning up. And it is what is making the noise. Since you don't hear it in 2D.

Just noticed that you say it doesn't do it in Crysis...hmm....?

Many cards do that, it's not something I'd worry about. I've seen other threads about this, and my own video card does it too, as well as my previous card. It happens in some apps when rendering something at very high framerates.

OCZ GameXstream 600w...

I OCed the card to 675/975 and I thought I heard an faint " alarm " sound as well but my temps are fine at 56/83 and all 3D games work fine...
