Why does AT pay money for this busted forum software when there's better free alternatives?

For the same reason you aren't paying to use it.

Because you wouldn't if it wasn't free.

Um... I did when it wasn't free and I'd be more than willing to pay that fee again as long as FuseTalk gets un-fvcked.

Subscription was optional. If this forum were subscription only, you'd have about 1000 users max.

and you're saying thats a bad thing? it'd get rid of all the n00bs and morons...

I run a derivative of phpBB (PNphpBB2) on my boards and it seems to hold up pretty darn well, granted I don't have the traffic that AT generates. Frankly I've never really liked ASP based boards all that much myself as they do have their problems but then again so do other languages. IMHO part of the problems seem to stem from backend handling of the forums.

Ironic most people here are quick to diss M$ and Apple, etc.. and voice support
for open source OS's like Linux and other various free software

But when, it comes to the forums, everyones diehard Fusetalk supporters 😕
you don't read these forums at all do you?

Agreed. That would benefit the quality of the community, but that would drastically drop page hits which, in the long run, drops Anand's income. His priorities come before ours.

Gimme a break. If the forums were such a pinch on Anand's wallet he wouldn't have them. If bandwidth usage is increasing it's because traffic is increasing, which raises the value of the adspace on here.

Getting rid of all the n00bs and morons? You're right. It would be the same people day in and day out talking about boring crap that nobody cares about and nothing would make people come back more often. That would effectively KILL the forums.

Why the hell is Nik commenting on bandwidth killing when half of his useless posts are a link to another forum? Give it up.

I think the only morons that visit the forums are the ones dumb enough to pay a subscription to post on forums.

You missed my point. The decision will never be made to close the forums to morons.
