Why does an Asus 5224a 52x burner take a VERY long time to burn...

..in Nero. It takes 7:47 to burn 700megabytes worth of info. I was going to have him "determine maximum speed" but it seems that was off by default. What is holding him back? He is using good media and I know that my Liteon also took that long till I disabled max speed.

But i'm wondering if any of you have an idea of what to do? Thanks
 
I think I found it...my burner also experienced the same thing till I turned off "Smart Burn" in the recorder options (along with the other thing)

I loaded my nero into Nero Express and I cannot find that option there...now my friend cannot go into normal Nero - only Nero express so i'd appreciate it if there was a way to disable Smart Burn via Express
