Why is the overall performance of BD, Vishera and all AMD's processors so low because of the IPC performance. The whole modules vs. core things shouldn't matter, because a lot of benchmarks in use tend to favor integer operations than floating point ones...Anandtech made this a point to test integer and floating point performance.

What's the flaw here? How can AMD be even more inefficient with their processors? The IPC performance of Bulldozer can be seen as worse at times compared to Phenom II.

Does AMD need better engineers? How can they still excel at GPUs, but suck at CPUs? Honest question. No bashing, baiting or flame throwing. I simply don't understand why once leading, now they are lagging especially when they have such talent on the GPU side.

I don't know, but if something doesn't happen, your next thread will be titled, "Why are Intel CPUs so damn expensive?"

EDIT: Actually no, this flamebait thread doesn't dignify a response.

tom's, guru3d, and anand benchmarks say otherwise as the 8350 beats the 3570 in most benches

I'm not sure if the OP is serious in his question? :)
Why does BMW "suck" compared to Mercedes? Poor BMW owners :p

+1. Except that since Intel's $5billion + fabs need to be running near 100% utilisation so their prices cannot go too high.

More likely would a thread title of "Why are Intel CPUs below $500 so crippled in features like AES, ECC, locked multipliers and so on?" With the answer "because they can be".

AMD problem is something called Intel.

If there was no Intel or Intel wasn't as big, AMD wouldn't suck so much.

AMD sucked because of previous management. For the past year they've been on the slow path of recovery and comparing them to Intel is ridiculous who's been going strength to strength since Nehalem.

I'm interested to see what they're going to announce on Oct 29th

125 designs by OEM? surely they all can't be 14-15" :)

Look at the 3rd column from the right - 2011 R&D ($M)

Notice what Intel's R&D budget is like. $8.4B

Now look way down the list at #9 and see what AMD's R&D budget is like. $1.5B

(and to get some idea as to how much of Intel's R&D budget is going into process node development, just look at TSMC at position 10 on the list)

Or:

Compare Intel's R&D budget to AMD's total revenue for the year.

and David typically doesn't fare so well in the real world

That is why they are called "fairy-tales" and not "everyday-tales".

People fixate on the exception that was noteworthy for being the exception but they forget that it was just that, an exceptional occurrence that isn't frequently duplicated.

when their new chips are worse that their old ones, the problem isnt intel

It isn't that simple.

The choice to go after an heavy core (integer) design is clearly a bid to try to retake server market and that led to problems plus debatable foundry process choices.

A design focused on less cores would be more favourable for the desktop market and probably avoided some of the Bulldozer problems. Vishera is basically the same chip and it is slightly better than Thuban IPC wise and much better in multi threaded scenarios.

And I suspect there is still stuff to fix in there and that this architecture will see a higher increase in performance than Agena->Deneb->Thuban.

AMD management made mistakes (many even), AMD engineering made mistakes, but mistakes when you fight with a giant like Intel are much more visible and hurt much more (when Intel engineering make mistakes, Intel engineering team 2, team 3 and team 4 are there to save the day).

Well Amd New 8350 does not suck.

It is however only really suited for a small part of the market with Heavy multi threaded tasks. Price per performance wise.

Where Intel has i7s which multi thread better and dominate in gaming but cost more.

If a person is only Encoding a 8350 at 229$ is a great buy.

Amd has lost alot of money And does not have the R&D like intel to compete at the high level..

This is not good for afew reasons.

Intel can up there prices

Intel can get lazy with there fab and release products slow.

If Amd can not compete with Intel it gives into no real reasons to make Advances which is a loss to everybody.
