Why does AIM start when I start Outlook?

you made AOL IMer your default messenging proggie. Go into outlook options and turn off the option to load default IMer.

nice. that happens to me too, i hate it when my girlfriend knows when i wake up to check my email, because it logs me on to AIM

There's an option in AIM to make it the default instant messanging program. You have to uncheck that.
