little girls shriek? what is the biological purpose of this?

because it is kind of "wired" in them i suppose. it is how they release their emotions, usually because they are excited, surprised whatever.
why do little boys yell? same reasons.
i am 22 and i still shriek or squeal with delight or enjoyment occasionally!

The tonal quality of small children, especially young girls, is genetically matched to the sound frequency that is most sensitive to adult humans. So, way back when, if they were being eaten by a Sabre Tooth Tiger, you would notice the screaming child.
