Why do Youtube even bother with HD video?

I stream my YouTube videos at 1080p or 720p all the time, when the option is available. Maybe you need a better internet connection.

I can watch 1080p all day without it ever having to buffer more than a few seconds before it starts. I don't understand how so many people have problems with Youtube yet it works flawless for me. *shrug*

It seems to me like videos that are popular with a lot of views stream super fast but the ones that aren't sometimes take ages.

Depends completely on time of day... In fact this applies to lots of popular sites and not just youtube, it seems 8 pm to midnight GMT is the worst, stuff like Youtube and Megaupload become extremely slow, but then late night/morning its fine, and afternoon not too bad either

And it gets worse in weekends of course

I couldn't remember ever waiting for a HD vidoe on YouTube, so I just looked up a couple of 720 and 1080 videos... Didn't have to wait for either to load, and the video never stuttered. *shrug*

What about trailers at apple.com? Do you have to wait for HD videos there?

I have a 20/5 FIOS connection, its not my internet thats the problem, its youtube. Mine buffers HD videos on youtube regularly, while sites like Netflix and HBO stream HD without so much as a hiccup.
