Why do you think people take the net so seriously?

Let me say, first of all... I met my husband online, and have been happily married for many years...

What I'm always curious about is how some people can get so damned upset at what someone says online. Ever heard of that X up in the right hand corner?

Also, why do you think so many people now live online... but that, I mean, why is it becoming the practise of choice to revolve ones entire socializing existance on the net?

I have my opinions on this, but I'd be really interested to hear how many do or don't share them.

Making the Internet your sole (or major) source of socialization means you open yourself up to being hurt by complete strangers.

Because it's not "real life" to some people, it makes it harder to understand why comments from what is essentially an anonymous string of characters have the ability to be so wounding. For people who may be socially awkward, who really bloom online and say all the witty, smart things they wished they could say in real life, it does matter, though. It's easier to express your real thoughts and feelings when you don't have to look the other person in the face - so for some people, they're opening themselves up online in a way they'd never do in real life. The obvious danger is that they're also more open to be hurt or angered when someone disagrees with or puts down what they might genuinely feel is the essence of the person inside them.

I haven't had nearly enough coffee or sleep to make as much sense as I'd like to today. Hopefully someone will understand what I just said.

ya I use the internet and I have many friends online but its no where near my top interaction with civilization.
