Force is something a politician decides to use, its not like the military has much say in the actual decision making. Why does the military put up with being told what to do when they possess all the force?

Most of it is State brainwashing (i.e., programmed to follow the "chain of command").

The social contract is just belief in society and the greater good I guess.

In other words, the social contract is sort of like a figment of one's imagination.
