Why do you sometimes wake up very, very thirsty?

Lately the last couple of days I have been waking up in the morning almost deathly thirsty. I don't know why. I drink tons of water (over 75 Oz/day), and nothing different has been happening other than this? Does anyone have a clue?

Maybe you're sleeping with your mouth open? It may sound odd..but I'm serious.. I think that could be a cause.

nope...no drool whatsoever...

I usually sleep on my side, too.

Could it be a sign of getting mono? I dated a girl a few weeks ago that came down with mono the following week.

If you are breathing through your mouth at night, that might do it despite the lack of drool. Do you notice any nasal congestion when you wake up?

It's dry but only because of the cold air, err somewhat cold air in Texas. Cold = 40 degrees or so.

If you're living near where I'm at, which is in Michigan, the air around is rather dry these days. I'm getting dry throats each time I wake up. :(

Ahh, nothing like 151 proof bacardi in the morning to rid that thirst!

Some of your body's functions slow down at night, such as the production of saliva. It isn't nearly as necessary if you aren't talking so this is one way your body saves energy.

I lived in Ludington for 6 month's doing contract work on some of the public schools in places like Bad Axe, Alpena and Atlanta. Michican gets some REALLY weird weather from those lakes. But the summers man that was some wild humidity I wasn't used to, I remember typing on my keyboard and sweating like crazy, but in the winter time as you said it dried right up some days.

excessive thirst is also a symptom of diabetes
might want to check just to be safe

Even with a humidifier going, I also am really thirsty in the mornings. Sometimes in the middle of the night I will get up just to drink some water.

Just a word of advice. If you have dry mouth, your chances of getting tooth decay are A LOT higher (trust me I know). So make sure you take care of those teeeth.

well, during the day, don't you drink something maybe at least once an hour?... when you sleep you go like 6-8 hours with nothing,... hence it seems totally normal to wake up thirsty AND hungry...

I second this. Those symptoms are how I detected my diabetes before I went into a coma (like many people do). Go get a blood test immediately would be my advice.

take care,
Rob
