Why do you "get a vacation"?

I did not know where else to post this.

The word vacation brings only positive images to my mind.
As opposed to words like "prison", "punishment", "fine", ....

I always look forward to a vacation in real life of course. When on vacation, I don't have to work and I entertain only.
Vacation is like a reward for me.

When I hear a mod say, "If you make another post like that, you will get a vacation", I find it funny.
Am I the only one?

Vacations are a chance to get away from the stress and grind. Recharge ones "batteries". This is what you expect.

It may be that here, people become stressed out and post things that they should not be.
A vacation(time off) then allows them to calm down and cool off. Come back with a clearer head.

We would like to not ever to issue a vacation/timeout to anyone but a spammer.
But the membership here continues to not always be responsbile.:brokenheart:

Or just sarcasm, depending on ones POV.

You are correct.

But, I was not talking about why we send people on vacation when they do something wrong.
I was talking about why the mods use the word "vacation".

It may help me express myself better if I use an example.
If I have a son (I don't), and he bothers his friend and I tell him why he should not do it and still he does it out of mischief, I may decide to warn him that if he keeps doing it, I will punish him.
So, I may say "if you bother your friend again, you will lose your gameboy for a whole day".
Taking the gameboy away, if it is his favorite game, is a punishment and he understands it and he does not want to lose it.

But, if I say "if you bother your friend again, I will get you some ice cream", that will be a very questionable thing to say to one's son to say the least.
He likes ice cream. I would be actually encouraging him to do it again by saying that.

Because if they were to send you away for a bit, it would be a vacation for those of us here.

I must admit I did not expect that answer and I had never though about it. Good one!

didn't they use to call it a temp ban?

You would think I would know with how many of the things I collected...

Because we'd get even more complaints from people who got sent on a temp ban, they'd say the words are too harsh and they'd prefer a vacation. LOL!

We cannot please everyone with the choice of wordings.

However, all the members either understand what it is meant, or they will very soon (one way or another :evil🙂

Timeout sounds so childish although some of the timeouts are due to childish behavior.

Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
?relax,? said the night man,
We are programmed to receive.
You can checkout any time you like,
But you can never leave!

I had a vacation once. It wasn't the dreamy cruise ship I had been promised 🙁

The SS Garbage Scow has been in dry dock for a while.

'Vacation' is a euphemism for, "I have finally found a source of power over others in my life, and I smite you".

'Ban' is a euphemism, "You need a new username, IP address, and MAC address".

'Lock" is a euphemism for, "Your thread hits too close to home, or caused too much levity".

He really should. If we can do anything to expedite that process, just let us know.
