Why Do You Declare Owning Someone?

  • The person I owned is too stupid to figure it out, so, I have to point it out to her/him.

  • It is a cheap and weak defensive reply that I use, in hopes that I scare off the other person.

  • I am a raging moron.

  • Other (please post what your other reason(s) are below).

I always read PWNED as "Pawned".

This is the correct pronunciation, no matter what the masses may say. When I gloriously defeat my foes in an online game, I do not merely claim ownership. I send them off to be strategically employed and ruthlessly consumed for the betterment of my own long term strategy. They are naught but pawns.

How is that insulting?

well, I played games where you could choose the amount of force brought with you, and be attacked without advanced warning. (open, non-instanced pvp).

So if you bring 2x 9man squads to wipe out a 5 man experience party (grinding, not intentionally pvping), then say 'gg'.. it's insulting. because it very clearly isn't.

Slavery is bad, mmkay?

Even though the Bible says it's legal and moral for me to own Canadians as slaves I choose to own no one.

(Thread seemed more interesting when first I misread it as "owing" someone....)

Ok.

I was thninking like ... after a Quake 2 Deathmatch or some RTCW Enemy Territory or Team Fortress match or whatever. But, I haven't really done much online shooter type gaming in the last 10 years or so....

I think it makes people feel good about themselves online.

I think I heard the word "Pwned" maybe 10 times while I was growing up and playing online games. Nobody says that anymore.

If you want to try to be an internet tough guy, you should probably pick something more insulting.

Honestly, I just laugh when someone is so adamant about "PWNING" someone on AT. They don't realize how stupid they look.

When you're playing round based games it normally just polite.

Hard core pwnage is warranted when certain poster(s) in this thread/forum opened their big mouth and lied, then other posters pointed out all the lies and those liars ran away with tails between legs. Also when they acted all tough and all to take on challenges from other posters and when time to put up or shut up, of course they ran away like pathetic rats.

Just like a line from a poster in here, "ugly can be fix but stupid is forever". So true.
