For the stats, the rivalry, the compatition, the stats, the chance to talk smack when you beat someone in the dailies, oh did I mention the stats....

Knowing that I'm a part of something larger....

And knowing i have so much in common with people that i've never met face to face....

MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooo...................

down boy remember it's the DPC we want to crush not the Dutch we have some fine Dutch members and we dont' want to piss them off!

I have to agree with Engineer.

It's the comraderie (babes), the teamwork (beer), the friendships (naked people) and the competition (illicit drugs).

Mostly it's the stats. 🙂

Well, it has all been said above! But, I'll give it a try...

When I started S@H I only had the stats from Berkley. I was competing with 2 million plus people who were only numbers (1,234,567th out of 2,200,000 which you share with 64k people.) OK, but not as satisfying as it could be. I noticed a portion of my account summary that was entitled "Your Group Info..." Well, mine said "none." So, I decided to edit my User Account Info and look at available groups. While scrolling through the various options I noted AnandTech. Of all the available groups, AT stood out as one I'd like to support. I had no idea what I was getting into!!!

I found it much more enjoyable to be competing with 400 plus people: people that you can talk to and compete with on a personal level.

So, I guess it boils down to Stats and Camaraderie!!

beats me....

uh, it does say to impress chicks on my dnet thingy, so i THINK that's why...

*hammerhead: takes a hammer to knock some sense into (head)*

edit
besides, i get sick of idiots...

It's all my brother's fault! Somehow he got into it, and showed me. That was cool, I liked the cow anyway. Then we found mika's page. The only time I've looked back now is to see the borg wizz by (a long time ago...) Then there is the gamebox. If I can't beat you in the stats, there's always a change I can sneak up on way in UT. 🙂

Heck, it's fun!

This may be a response that only Amok appreciates, but I just want to add my fair share to the heat death of the universe. Since entropy will ultimately win, I think our CPUs should put out their maximum heat load at all times. BK and his blazing Cyrix processors will lead the charge, but the Athlon is no slouch when it comes to BTU/2^28-block.

I tried to post this earlier, but by the time I hit "post", the forums were down 🙁 Then i had to go to class 😱

Because USUALLY, those who are more informed about computer architecture / networking / linux / anything-computer-techy generally crack. I don't like to be around those that are implied by Cautery's post - I feel that generally, his post, while truer words haven't been spoken about other forums, this one continues to be head and shoulders above the rest (with the exception of a few unsavory incidents).

I started because I thought "Hey, Anand put up a link about how I have a chance to win 1,000 bucks." I keep going because it is one of the things that fuels my passion for processors (okay, that was bad....DanC - where's your trout???😀). I keep going because the people here care (except for that shifty Ray fellow who missed my 200k milestone over a week ago 😛). I stick around because, whilst not fragging my heart out, getting whacked with Cane Nunchacku (TM), DRAM Daggers (TM), the MROS (TM), getting my Cyrix replaced with Folgers Crystals by the Folgerizer (TM), being whacked with the NIC Nunchacku's (TM), slapping people with trout, asking Chef for something I can never have (a respectably fast Cyrix please?😀), getting the Sore Butt Award (I need to reclaim my position), driven over by an old van (no trademark necessary, its only PF's 🙂 ), or even using my very own Flaming Cyrix Throwing Stars (TM), my processor needs to be doing someting 😉

For those of you who don't get it, come to IRC!
[EDIT] Stupid bolding formatting..😱

Well, here goes:

I've been following Anand's site since about a month after he launched it. I used to love the personal touch he gave the site. Once his site became a little more 'commercial', I started roaming the forums. Once I came across the DC forum, I was suprosed and the friendliness of the forum. I had tried RC5 once before Old Stats , but without the commradery and the races, didn't seem like there was too much fun to it.

Once I started working on the project again under TA's Banner, I found people actually encouraging me. Not taunting me at my pitiful rate, but actually helping me to understand how to do better. And along the way, I learned a hell of a lot more about networking, Linux, BeOS, FreeBSD (Never go near FreeBSD again though.) Now I am learning a little about php and perl.

Let's just say I get out so much more than I put in, I could never quit cold turkey. =)

The main reason is the science......we have to finish the work we started. All of the SETI data is important every single work unit. All of the other great things about the team applies too, but first is the science.......so we can get our stuff together to make contact.😀
