Why do you continue to participate???

I've rediscovered why I've been doing this for over a year now. I am curious why others still participate?

I'll wait a day before I post mine as I don't want to influence any other persons reasoning.

Thanks,

Jay

Why not? I use those distributed programs as stability tests, i just leave it on, might as well benefit something.

To dominate, decimate and destroy all that lay before us. To crush our enemies and take their women.:)

That, and I enjoy competition.

What first attracted me were some of the recruiting threads after some of the range wars with the DPC's. I never came to DC before, I just didn't like the idea of them trash-talking (and ass kicking) on AnandTechers. So I joined.

I suppose I stay for that same reason, but I've found some others. The folks here are closer than in other Forums, I like the spirit of cooperation/support not only between Mini Teams but also the OGR/SETI/RC5 groups.

I gotta admit I like watching the stats, and taking aim at other AnandTechers on Mika's. I know I will never be able to compete with Mini Teams, but they're doing their part just as I'm doing mine, and it is all done in a friendly spirit. If I can eventually get a couple or three 760 DDR's with 1.2 Gig TBirds, hmmmm. Santa, you listening?

Last major reason is the fun/challenge of learning something new and different. If you ask a question, no one jumps your butt over a typo or something stupid, a damn refreshing change from some of the other forums.

And there is still the original reason KICK DUTCH BUTT :D:D:D

(Can almost hear Engineer "tsk, tsking") :)

ACK FISH talk again. :p

I do it cause it's fun. And I have said it before..... I will say it again. It's a team effort and I like being part of a team effort. This is also where I met some of the smartest computer nerdlings I have ever met. Where I can come and chat computer nerdling stuff to and I will not get SLAMED for asking a stupid question........

Well..... That is how I feel anyways.

Strictly for fun:Q

actually am building my own shop setup and while I get to each PC for it's particular function(s) they should be doing something. Always!;)

AnandTech is a great site and there are great people here, with no problems giving freely. Just can't think of a better place to be!

DanC has Trout!:)

Engineer should be slapped with every one of them!:)

There is a real strange story going on in the 'ignore' thread!:) (of course you're supposed to ignore it!)

toolgirl is my favorite!:):):)

TWTA is about to eat us for lunch!:| (j/k)

I heard that to join the Borg you had to be able to list all their members!:D:D:D:D:D

I know these faces annoy people, I think that's why I use them!:Q

Someone needs to find RC's remote, he is getting out of range in OGR!:(

I'm jealous of any cracking name that has Naked in it!:)

Am I getting off topic here?:frown: Naaaaaa!!!! It's all why I'm here!

Oh, did I forget to mention STATS!!!!!!;cool;

And great web sites!:) And Paulson and Adul and NT4Mike and Jator and Russ and......;)

1.) To stay ahead of Jay. DUH! :p
2.) Read # 1 again.

What other group of people would travel 900 miles one-way just to see what someone in the DC forums looks like? OK, so it was me that drove the farthest, and fragged the hardest, but it was a weekend I'll never forget. :D

I started on day one(Ok, I didn't check in on the forums until day 5, but I had a new V2;)), and I don't intend to leave until we've decimated /., and all those who know of their existance.:D

Pretty much for the same reasons that RC listed. That and I believe that there is intelligent life out there.. 'cuz like they say in the "Contact" movie, "If there isn't anyone else out there, it's an aweful waste of space!" :)

Good thread!

I started doing seti after a friend introduced me to it. I thought it was a good use of otherwise wasted electricity. I mean hey, as long is I am paying for the electricity I want the computer doing something with it. I did this for almost two months, before I discovered this forum. I was in the habit of reading the hardware forum when someone posted something about seti performance. So now I also do it for the fun and friendship of my fellow anandtechers. Both RC5 and seti now.

Because of the people in every post above and because of the people in every post below....

You guys have become a 2nd Family to me....a cherished one :) The close friendships that have developed, the fun, the races, the jabs and joking, the mini-teams, the magical milestones....

I don't know that I can pick any one aspect that dominates another....

The stats the, camaraderie, learning how to network comps, the people, potential to compete with others on the team, to suport something cool on Anandtech the place that provided with reviews when I was deciding what to buy for my first new system in eight years and then provided a forum to find the parts at the best prices.

Good folk.

Does the Flux Capacitor go on before or after the Artic Silver?
