Why do you believe that bad things only happen to bad people?

I see a lot of comments like "to stop getting harassed by police, don't commit crimes" or "if you're struggling to pay the bills, just get a better job."

Why do you believe that bad things only happen to bad people?

Have you ever had any misfortune in your life wasn't your fault?

If good things happen to good people, God is rewarding them. If bad things happen to good people, God has a reason.

You just gotta believe.

Bad people do bad things to good people. So yes, bad things can, and do, happen to good people.

I am not sure why some good people died early and bastards such as Charlie Manson are still alive for years and years.

"Misfortunes"? Sure, but that's life. You have the ups and downs. Just have to deal with them the best you can.

So the only reason that bad things happen to good people is bad people? Cancer and earthquakes never kill good people? Good people never contract ebola? Tornados never destroy the homes of good people?

Please stay away from any career choice that requires good reading comprehension.

Yet another anti religion thread.

It's because having superior values leads to money and money insulates you from the majority of bad things.

Getting harassed by police and not being being able to pay your bills aren't the same bad thing. Nor is cancer, ebola, run amok semis, your neighbor's natural gas explosion...

That isn't an explanation.

Are you for or against the argument?

Explain. This is the place for it.

Because there is arguably causation between being a bad person committing crimes, and "harassment", whereas my my utility provider could have, and which is the likely scenario, increased my payments, or I could have been forced to settle for a lower-paying job.

I cannot see how not having a "better job" to afford bills is an indictment on being a bad person like committing crimes leading to harrassment is.

I don't believe that bad things happen only to bad people.

Good things happen to bad people too. The incarnation and resurrection, for example.

I don't believe bad things only happen to bad people. I believe that many people perceive that what is happening to them is "bad" and "not their fault" or directed at them - their status as people being irrelevant. I've found most of these "bad events" to be events of their own creation and have found most of these people to be lazy or the type to blame someone else / God figure or not the type to do something about it such as follow the advice and hard work that people who've had the same problems have done.

Granted - there are earthquakes and deaths in the family but they are uncontrollable events - that just happen (what a concept) - the world has weather and changes and such - and really, a death - while painful for the people that know that individual - isn't really something bad that happened TO you; you aren't the one who died after all... it's just an indirect effect of something that happened.

Then you have the things that involve 2 people - such as rape or beatings - it gets complicated. For the person raped or beaten; it's a very bad thing... but when two people get involved - its hard to consider them just events that happen. In reality it is someone else forcing their will and desire onto another person and it falls out of the realm of the phrase "bad things happen to bad people" with the main reason being that this thing did not just happen. There seems to be a difference there to me.

Good and bad are based on comparison in thought. If you are in the now there's no time for anything but surfing the wave of the Will of God. Paddle paddle paddle, and stand up. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some people are harassed without ever committing a crime. If you're harassed and you commit a crime, it isn't harassment.

I think the question you are asking is why conservatives are heartless unempathetic assholes. I think the fact is they only look that way to liberals. I think what is going on is that they have a number of moral concerns that liberals don't have, like the virtue of an ordered, respectful to authority, group cohesive society, etc, all traits that have survival value in human evolution. They are concerned about injustice and inequality, but not to the extent that liberals are, and not when it conflicts with their other moral beliefs. In short, conservatives have a larger moral palate than liberals do and can actually understand how liberals see morality better than liberals understand them.

But while these moral qualities have survival value, they become dangerous when the dangers they are fit to address aren't present in modern life. We need to evolve, for example, more compassion for other people because we are one big human race and no longer can survive successfully as a bunch of warring savage tribes. Liberals are better at not allowing fear of the other to fuck up their thinking. But trust in your fellow man can be dangerous and a gut reaction to the other who is odd, not part of and accepted by the group, always carries risk and conservatives react faster to such threat than liberals can. They (liberals) have to think about it.

Conservative inculcate this fear into their children to protect them from danger but it makes them what liberals would call insensitive pricks. But that makes them very valuable at your back in the trenches. We know, from looking at Republicans and Tea Party people, that they have an endless tendency to splinter and cut each other's throats. Liberals are better equipped to see how stupid that is.
