Hay Hay, if you think it means something, why not say what you think it does mean. Maybe you understand more than you think. Lets see the subject is why do I argue and I replied:

"The butterfly that flaps its wings in Africa may cause a hurricane in Florida.

When you want the door to hear, speek to the wall.

We know absolutely nothing and so we don't know that.

He who reaches his wits end is ready to take the first step."

Go ahead and take a stab at what I mean. I have to say it's obvious to me. :D

Something you say here may set off a reaction that causes something important to happen someday.

<<

When you want the door to hear, speek to the wall.
>>

Someone that's not participating who is receptive to what you have to say might be listening.

<<

We know absolutely nothing and so we don't know that.
>>

A little more ambiguous; discussing things furthers our knowledge?

<<

He who reaches his wits end is ready to take the first step."
>>

Pushing someone to the brink of what they believe/know is likely to make them search for something beyond what they currently believe/know.

hey, this reminds me of something I heard (I think it's a comic skit). it was about guy conversations vs girl conversations.

guys, when we go out, we usually don't have much to say... it's only when we have something we disagree on (like which car is better ;)) that we start a conversation. example: "yo, check out that 73 pinto"... "that's some messed up crap"... "hell no, the pinto is a pimpin car dude"... "go burn in hell"... "fvckin Shtt, you got no taste in cars"... "fvck that"... "yo, check her out"... "who?"... "she just left"... "why didn't you tell me earlier?"... "you're fvckin slow"... "crackas3"... (grabs other guys nipple and rips it off)... "fokker!!!"... "lets get a beer"... "COOL! but we're not going back to that sheet bar we went to last time"...

girls on the other hand, need conversations where people agree... "oh, that nail-polish looks so beautiful"... "yah, i got it from chanel"... "really? I love chanel"... "me too"... "I wanted to get the hairspray from chanel, it smelled so nice"... "Yah, I wanted to buy it too, it does smell nice"... "I wish my boyfriend would pay for it"... "same here, my boyfriend is blah blah blah"... "really? my boyfriend is the same blah blah blah".

notice the difference? so you see, guy conversations only exist in the form of argument

What's not to understand?

MB said: We know absolutely nothing and so we don't know that.
you responded with: A little more ambiguous; discussing things furthers our knowledge?

and to you, HotChic, I respond with:

How can you either understand, understand to not-understand or not-understand when the beginning of a view rests on knowing nothing and in knowing neither knowing nor not-knowing (and yet both knowing the knowable and not-knowing) that is knowing an absolute nothing.

I don't argue. I ramble ;)

Only the madman may judge the fool. For the fool knows not what the madmad sees.

To die, one must be born, and to be born, one must die.

If my ramblings are construed as argument/polemic, then I must only respond that I do so just because every once in awhile, the person comes who needs a nudge, or a sting and who better to sting than a madman ;)

Cheers ! :)

Hey Hot, and ta think I always get ribbed for being incomprehensible. Obviously it ain't the comprehenders doing the complaining. You done a great job there. In my words.

Maybe some day some way something that gets said here will awaken somebody somehow.

The person you argue with may not be the person open to the truth you have to deliver. It may be another reader. It may be a part of the person psyche that may assert itself at some other time.

The acquisition of knowledge (wisdom) is not just a matter of learning what is true, it's as much about unlearning what is false. To unlearn is to be forced to accept modesty and the awareness of our own ignorance. Arguing with somebody who knows something about knowing nothing can sometimes help you see that too.

When we have exhausted all our resources on a problem without success, as can happen in an argument (see above), the need for a solution will create new avenues of understanding. It's a good idea then, to increase your need.

In other words Moonbeam,

A little bit of commonsense might, just might, go a long way. And we`ll never know unless we try.

Come to think of it, we`ll probably never know anyway :)

<< I don't really argue. >>

Sure you don't.

<< But in the process I get into with people who really aren't to bright to begin with. >>

Of course, it's not your fault. It doesn't matter that you like to fire off an insult with every post...the problem is with everyone else. The sad part is that you act as if you believe that.

Most of the posts you make are just bait for the opposing viewpoint. As soon as they respond, you can scream about "prejudice" and "bigotry", and just fuel the hatred on both sides. That's all you're really after though, isn't it? Who wants progress when it means we have to open our minds?

You're a race-baiter and a bigot; and the perfect example of what is wrong with "race relations" today. It doesn't matter what side of the debate you're on...attitudes like yours are the biggest obstacles to real equality and better opportunites for everyone.

<< Why do you argue on ATOT? >>

Because it's fun. It's good mental exercise, it improves my typing skills, and it sharpens my arguments. On a rare occasion, I might even learn something from being opposed to another point of view. Once or twice, I actually might have changed my mind about a particular issue :Q

Good flame wars are my favorite to read, though. I'm not afraid to offend, or afraid of being offended, so I'm able to enjoy the humor in them ;) Watching the ignorant get all riled up is always a blast :D
>>

Its amazing how often I read how I am a racist and all that other nonsense. Well answer me this question genius. How come Anandtech OT and the whole board in general is so absent of blacks? Maybe its the air of your attitude? The fact is blacks are blasted far more here than any other race group period. I find it funny how so many whites here can speak what it is or is not to be black. So being as though I read the garbage, I respond to the trash. There are a few here who when they do say something along the line of race I have come to respect them because I know they are speaking just on the issue. Red and Glenn come to mind as being two of those few. But there are other idiots who I won't name always seem to take that little angle that is clearly so racist its a joke. So to those I don't have kind words and yes I will come back with a response. As for you if your one of them I have blasted along that line you probably deserved it. I can pull up about 15-120 threads where whites are just going to town on blacks. And its funny I didn't see you posting telling them they were and I quote

Oh maybe you didn't read them. If you really want to start race relations going in the right direction start by looking in the mirror. :p

To die, one must be born, and to be born, one must die.

The immediate response to this is to be born again. ... ?

In a true argument, everybody goes in with 25% of the story and everybody comes out knowing the whole thing.

<< Well answer me this question genius. How come Anandtech OT and the whole board in general is so absent of blacks? Maybe its the air of your attitude? >>

I think it generally has something to do with the fact that blacks are much less likely to be connected to the internet. According to Yahoo!'s World Factbook, blacks account for 12.4% of the population in the United States. According to The US Census Bureau, only 43% of black households in 2000 owned a computer. If the trends for blacks mirror those for whites, we can assume that only about 70% of those households have Internet access. Add in the fact that Asians are disproportionately represented, and the number of blacks we can expect as members is much lower than it first appears.

Why is this board so absent of Hispanics? Native Americans? Ethnic Cajuns? Polynesians? I don't know about you, but I haven't seen too many threads from white people blasting those ethnic groups...why are there so few, then? Something tells me it doesn't have much to do with the horrible racism that runs rampant at AT.

<< The fact is blacks are blasted far more here than any other race group period. >>

You're probably right, but Jews run a very close second. If you look real hard, you'll find threads where I've blasted those people, too. You'll also see that the mods usually do a pretty good job of weeding out the worst of the bigots on this board. If you weren't so blinded by your own hatred and arrogance, you might actually be able to see it.

<< There are a few here who when they do say something along the line of race I have come to respect them because I know they are speaking just on the issue. Red and Glenn come to mind as being two of those few. >>

There are a lot here who when they do say something along the line of race I have come to respect them because I know they are speaking just on the issue. You're not one of them.

<< But there are other idiots who I won't name always seem to take that little angle that is clearly so racist its a joke. So to those I don't have kind words and yes I will come back with a response. >>

You're right, there are a lot of other idiots, and I have no problem blasting away at them right alongside you. You, unfortunately, often fall right into that same category. Let me explain it clearly: very few people in this world hate you for the color of your skin. Rather, most hate you because of the ignorant, hate-filled garbage you like to spew.

Here's a challenge for you:

You've immediately branded me as a racist, and named my attitude as part of the reason AT has very few black members. Why don't you actually support that claim? Feel free to quote me all you want. Maybe then you'll see my point.

<< I can pull up about 15-120 threads where whites are just going to town on blacks. And its funny I didn't see you posting telling them they were and I quote... >>

That's because my quote doesn't always apply to everyone; I customize all of my insults according to the type of idiot I'm dealing with. Read through some of the anti-semitic threads that have been posted recently to see what I'm talking about.
