well, i'm not sure if men do it too, but if your wife/gf reads alot of romance novels, and i mean, the dirty ones.. would you consider that the same as a man watching 'romance' videos on his computer? i've seen women who get mad at men who watch stuff on their computers, but should men get mad at women who read these kind of books?

do you think a woman who reads romance novels is a sign of an unsatisfied woman?

It's their way of imagining/exploring fantasy.

Our way involves BitTorrent :D

They wish their significant others were as romantic as the Fabio's in the novel.

Not really. Why do men (or women) read sci-fi or fantasy books?

its basically female porn. It triggers strong emotional responses in them much like looking at jalba in a thong.

I have never understood the fasicantion with "Dirty" novels. I guess they were too cheesy or dumb.

I don't know if that means they are unsatisfied or not...

Probably for the same reason they watch soap opera and watch chick flick...

Every time there's a thread about porn there are lots of people ranting about how it creates unrealistic expectations.

Well, romance novels and movies do the same thing, just in a less 'dirty' way.

Women that find porn offensive for whatever reason might pick up one of these novels to arouse themselves. I'm serious.

Not in a less dirty way - some of those novels get pretty graphic.

They do it in a more emotionally satisfying way. Novels get much more detailed than a movie ever could, and go much deeper in to the emotional aspects of the relationship(s).

I agree that they do create unrealistic expectations, like a lot of movies (porn or otherwise) and TV shows that are our there.

Women naturally have a stronger reaction to verbal stimulation and men naturally have a stronger reaction to visual stimulation.

I still like reading sex scenes in books though. I couldn't possilby read a whole novel though. I guess the ladies get involved in the characters and emotions instead of just the genitals. Not me. Gimme the ANATOMY.

I had a bad-ass field superintendent once....ex-marine. Real gruff....(if any of you remember B.B. Andersen from the original Survivor, it was his brother)...he used to read romance novels in his trailer.

Never did figure that one out...

In 9th grade history class we were required to read Clan of the Cave Bear. It was a pretty long read, tedious, lots of boring description about foliage, 600-700 odd pages. Then, Someone mentions that there were a couple sex scenes scattered thoughout the book. Needless to say, I read the whole damn thing. The scenes were weak and kind of disturbing. However, someone mentioned the sequel had less historic aspects and more sex. So yea, I read the sequel as well. Good read! Hahaha........................

BINGO. Romance is cool every once in a while. But I would be scared to get involved witha girl that reads it all the time.

But what you men don't seem to understand is that it's emotional porn. :D

For the same reason geeks read Star Wars & Star Trek novels: escapism and entertainment.

BTW, I read about two dozens Harlequin Romance (Canadian pride FTW) novels during the 70s and I don't remember any graphic intimacy decribed in them. It was about romance, not sex. Of course, they probably have changed in the last 30 years.

And yes, I'll take cuddling over sex.:p

It's not that we don't understand. It's that we just don't care. You get what you need; we get what we need. And I need explicit close-ups of atractive females.
