because trucks are cheap for people who don't have children, and are reasonably durable, and can haul stuff from ikea once in a while?

one of my prof's sold his M5 for a toyota tacoma. i suspect that he simply can't afford gas and maintenance on his M5.

You suspect wrong. A Tacoma will get about 17mpg city. Certainly no better than an M5.

Yes, but most white girls you see driving trucks are driving their SO's trucks. :frown:

ok anyway. Does it really matter what vehicle people buy? I love sports cars and don't like trucks very much. However, from what I've seen, a lot of people buy trucks because of the usefulness in the long run.

Because they take responsibility for fixing their own vehicles?
  • V8
  • Full frame
  • Easy to access longitudinal mounted engine
  • Elbow and legroom
  • Towing ability
  • Safety
  • Visibility
  • Powerful engine & drive train that never strains
  • RWD cheaper than FWD repairs...

What I don't understand is the allure of spening $25k or more on half a vehicle. Trucks have become expensive as a result of this "trend" and unfortunately, people fail to realize they are paying for half a vehicle. Yes, the bed of a truck is useful, but it shouldn't cost as much or more than a car that seats twice as many people. I saw Ford offering an F-150 on TV for $35k with an employee discount that took it down to $28k or something. That's a crazy amount to pay for a pickup truck.

<-- misses his Nissan pickup truck

Exactly. I know a lot of friends that have trucks and make fun of me for driving a Corolla. Guess who was bitching when gas prices went up?

Half a vehicle? One-quarterna vehicle? I guess that's why I have a truck, 2 sedans and a motorhome. I can get it all done.
