Why do wealthy people dress their kids like it's the 1940s?

Snark genuinely not intended, I'm trying to understand. Dealing real estate in all parts of town I noticed something about wealthy NYC - lots of kids dressed in newsboy outfits and long, very feminine dresses (straight out of a period movie, a lot like that movie "Litte Women" - long, drab colors, simple). I've seen enough about wealthy LA on tv and see it there too. What's up with that? Our girls wear pants the vast amount of time, are these girly girls just not expected to be active (or are they cool with upskirts at the park)?

It's because they have the means to treat their children like little toys or dolls in the diorama that is their comfortable existence.

My wife, who wears dresses most days, says that dresses are more comfortable than pants for most activities. If the clothes you're seeing are made to 1940s standards, I'd like to wear them. Modern clothes are deconstructed garbage.

Speaking of design, the look is very much in line with Wes Anderson movies, where kids speak like little adults talking about philosophy while sipping earl gray tea. It's a weird, weird version of NYC this native doesn't recognize

apparently, Wes Anderson also keeps the entire cast and crew of his films together in one hotel throughout the shoots, all dressed in their weird Wes Anderson costumes (which, I think, he actually designs himself).

ALL over UWS, Brooklyn Heights, Park slope. It's recent, hence my wonder (and i pay attention to kids clothing because I shop for 2 girls)
