Why doesn't the average Joe see that "God" is just an imaginary CRUTCH? If you want to quit drinking, only YOU CAN MAKE YOU QUIT DRINKING. If you want to stop beating your dog, ONLY YOU CAN MAKE YOU STOP BEATING THE DOG.

God won't save your marriage, pay the bills or wash your car. God also WILL NOT "give you the strength" to do any of the above.

If you're a weak person, admit you're weak and learn to be strong on your own. Leave The Good Book where it belongs; gathering dust in a seedy motel nightstand drawer.

I'll believe what I want, you believe what you want... But I will say that HATE or similar feelings are the worst of all between believing in God and believing in anything else. You can't dislike something so much without some other feelings behind it.

I wonder if any of you christians realize that all your beliefs will be thrown out the window in a few thousand years. Think about it, the Egyptians...they thought the sun was pulled across the sky by whatever god it was in a chariot. They had a god for everything, or everything they didn't understand why it worked and/or happened. Now here we are today, knowing why the sun moves across the sky knowing that it surely isn't being pulled by someone in a chariot. So maybe in a couple thousand years from now scientists will know how the earth actually was created, and where we come from and all that. Then the people will look back and think, "Wow those people a couple thousand years ago were so clueless." And as far as all these stories in the bible, most are insane. Noah and his ark??? are you kidding me?? Some guy builds this HUGE boat, out of wood I'm assuming, it doesn't really matter. Either way, this boat carried two of every animal. How did Noah get two of every single animal on that boat? Do you understand how many different animals there are in the world and that (I think) it would be impossible to get all of those animals on a single boat without them killing eachother. How would all the creatures survive next to penguins and other animals that needed to be cold? So after some guy builds this insanely huge boat and gets all the animals on it, you are telling me that it is has multi-climate controlled features? Sweet. And then the world was flooded. How did the salt water fish live in fresh water or fresh water fish live in salt water? Doesn't make any sense. Now I was brought up going to church and I'll even tell you that I'm confirmed to my church. Why? My parents made me. I did it to make them happy, although it took awhile for my mom to leave me alone aboutu going anymore. I just told her I'm too old for fairy tales. I've accepted that I'm going to die someday and I don't need to try to comfort myself with religion. Some people do and thats fine I guess. And for anyone who thinks I'm all evil and going to hell and what not just remember it was YOUR god that made me this way supposedly. And the fact I don't believe in a hell so I'm not really threatened. This doesn't mean that I'm running around in life having no morals because that would just be a stupid assumption. I believe you should live by the 10 commandments however, but not because of religious beliefs. Even if there wasn't ever religion, killing people, stealing things and all that is still WRONG. But I just thought I'd say something too since everyone else is, and I thought after reading through all of this it would be a waste to not contribute...

just wondering, how old are you?

Edit: you're right-- there is no hell, and no, God isn't responsible for your flaws, just your existence. Your flaws are due to human imperfection, passed down from Adam & Eve when they committed the original sin.

Most people have a problem with the Bible w/o ever reading it for themselves. If you're willing to gain access to accurate knowledge of God's word, and still find it's unfit to follow, then that's your biz.

oh yeah, even the demons and evil ones have standards and a moral code, it's just slightly different than yours or mine. by following the commandments of the true God, it builds a closer relationship to him, which is up to us mainly by acting of our own free will, one of the most loving provisions God ever gave man.

I wonder if someday man will invent a way to make it easier to read. Long ago cavemen drew all the pictures really close to eachother in the cave. Later we invented writing to better express ourselves, but still this way of putting stuff close together stuck. Someday we will shed this way of communicating so we do not look like idiots.

To dream.

SnipeMasterJ13:
Christianity has been around for 2000 years and shows no sign of slowing down. So it sounds like wishful thinking on your part.

And for the athesists on this board.... What is the point of trying to convince others there is no God? What would you have gained, nothing. What would have I gained, nothing. What is the point? Please tell me. Because if there is no God, what would be the net result? Nothing. Why are you wasting your time trying to convert Christians? Because in the end it doesn't matter right?

I don't think this thread is so much a means of conversion as it is a place to discuss what we know, feel, and think.

If you want to be converted, I'm sure one of these fine posters here would love to smother you in chloroform, duct-tape your trap, and stuff you into a black van filled with masked thugs to whisk you off somewhere never to be seen or heard from by your family again.

can't anyone be converted by the internet. You change for yourself, no one changes you.

Wait, so let me get this straight....
If weak people turn to god, then strong people turn to the devil?

Shout at the devil! Shout! Shout!

But what is thier point for doing so? From an athesist viewpoint its a waste of time to even discuss such matters, because in the end -- to them -- it doesn't really matter.

The ancient Egyptian religion lasted about 3000 years, and the fastest growing religion today is Islam.

I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything, instead I'm asking how you make sense of all these things that make NO sense logically such as Noahs Ark. And what is going to happen when we do find out how everything got started in the first place? Not that it really matters because my guess is none of us will live long enough to find out.

My point, you numbskull, is that even 2000 years for a religion does not mean that the religion will remain everlasting. My second point is that Christianity has slowed down. It currently is a very large religion, but more people are dropping out or not signing on in the first place, as compared to Islam. How could you not get my points without a literal explanation? Jesus.

So what do you think are these "other motivations" that atheists "can never be honest about"?

From what I can see, atheists try to convert for the exact same reason that Christians try to convert. They believe they know what the truth is, and it bothers them to see so many people "blind to the truth".

And Judaism has been around for over 4000 years (or more). Try as the world might it just won't go away. What makes you think Christianity will be any different kogase (and anyone else who agrees with him)?

You refer to Christianity as if there is only one... not so.

same with Islam, I believe. how many types of Muslims are there now?

the ruler of this world is quite crafty in misleading people, we can all agree on that.

the Jews of ancient Israel lost God's favor with the coming and going of Christ Jesus. but they don't believe the messiah ever came, so Orthodox Jews of today's time are pretty much living in the past.
