Why do we never see battery-powered cars?

Isn't it a shame for battery industry? I don't want to drive a car for 100 miles before charging its 1000 pounds of batteries.

They use electric motors in golf carts, which I drive pretty much every day (I work at a summer resort and rent out/service these things as it's a way of transportation.)

The thing is, they need to be charged every night at least, carry about 6-8 6-volt batteries (heavy) and are slow as hell.

Cars, I dunno... :D

1. They are terrible for the environment.

2. Not enough power plants. CA is having trouble already..imagine if everyone drove electric cars.

3. If we went all nuclear, they would be feasible.

BMW is slowly rolling out Hydrogen powered cars in Germany... They even have "gas" stations for these cars over there.

Purely electric cars are very very very inefficient and cause just as much pollution as normal gasoline cars because the gasoline is burnt at the power plant side to produce the electricity. Hybrid cars, on the other hand, are much more efficient and healthy for the environment =)

I see that hybrid one from Honda a lot around here but it's not gonna happen in today's power troubles.

Fuel cells and solar, wind to make hydrogen seem like a winner for the future. The problem is that once you have the equipment you're energy independent with no corporation getting your monthly check. That's no good.

fake, what does todays power troubles have to do with the Honda? You don't plug it in. The gas engine and decelleration charge the battery. It gets terrific MPG.

BruinEd03:

In metropolis, most of time your car does nothing but idling before a red light. You can turn off the motor in an electric car. Nobody does that in a gasline-car.
