Before the milk commercials milk was about $1 a gallon, now since the "got milk" BS with proffesional whatevers sporting a milk mustach its around $3 a gallon. With a famly of 2 boys I have had to quit drinking milk myself and given up on cerals for breakfast because of its cost and my children need it more then I for thier growing bones.

I say we all know what milk is, milk is almost in some form or another in the food we eat so its not like it will at any time be fazed out with a different form so why really the need for the commercials other then to justify the need to raise the milk 3 fold. I say no more commercials and bring it back down to the $1 a gallon and make up the profits by all the people who used it all the time and had to cut it down or out can go back to drinking it again.

I dont know about anyone else but between what my kids drink and the food my wife prepares that needs it we go through about 1 gallon every 3 days so thats 10 gallons a month at $3 a pop for $30 spent just in milk alone. And I miss my Captin Crunch and milk with cookies sooooo bad :(

Rant over

We have commercials for plastic, chemistry, and Kurdistan too. No reason for any of it.

We get milk at Sam's Club for a little over $2.

Anyways, when you're competing against soft drinks, sports drinks, and every other kind of drink, advertising doesn't hurt.

milk prices are governed by the government, which buys up enough milk to keep the price high enough to keep farmers in business. they then make government cheese out of it.

Unless the advertising costs more than the resulting change in revenue can pay for.

I drink milk regardless of which celebrity is or isn't sporting a false milk moustache.

They've been having milk commercials for as long as I can remember. This isn't a new fad.

Nah it wasnt that long ago :p
It just seems that ever since the commercials started to remind people of milk who had to live under a rock in the mountians under 14 feet of snow its been going up and up and its over $3 at one store and getting that close now at wal-mart. Honestly droping the miulti million dollars spent making the commercials and the "actors" would drop it down quite a bit I think.

This could be said about almost anything. Who here has ever watched a Coke or Pepsi commercial and then had a craving to go out to the store and get some?

But it's really just one big circle. You're paying a little more for that gallon of milk, which pays for their advertising costs, which keeps the costs of tv & magazines down.

So it's either pay less for products & more for media - or pay more for products & less for media.

You have to wonder how much of each movie that a customer buys goes towards paying for the copyright protection that prevents the customer from copying the movie he/she just purchased.
