Why do we name Hurricanes, but not other natural disasters?

Why is that? I've never heard of tornado Andrea, or earthquake Rupurt, or whatever?

Apparently, many years ago, sailors would name them.

And, before that, they were named after the Saints on whose feast days the hurricane occurred.

and tropical depressions get sequential numbers...
