Why do we keep getting admittedly uncharismatic candiates for president?

Granted Clinton was pretty smooth....but for the most part most presidents have been...well, dorks. Have we ever had anyone run (and win even) who was seen as..."cool?" Im only 21 so my political background is pretty low.

John Fitzgerald Kennedy was seen as cool and charismatic in his time. His brother Robert Francis was too when he was gunned down on the 85th day of his presidential campaign in 1968. He would have probably layed the political smackdown on Nixon if not for Sirhan Sirhan. :( Theodore Roosevelt qualifies as charismatic and so does Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

Moonbeam: LMAO!

I thought Herbert Hoover was very charismatic, for a Republican. :p

No matter what your personal thoughts on him, Reagan certainly exhibited charisma as well, much to the chagrin of the other side. He annoyed some Dems in his day the same way Clinton annoys some Republicans now.

It took years, glenn1, for me to realize why Regan, for all the would, had the incredible charism of a circus chimp. He was just so cuddily and cute I couldn't help make excuses for him.

Does charisma really matter? The most important thing is that they get the job done. Abraham Lincoln was ranked #1 present this last February, and he was not very charasmatic. If you recall President Harding from the 1920s, he was very charasmatic and the ladies liked him. Horrible president.

Thats what I am talking about...Pimps. I mean honestly, how many of us "relate" to Gore or Bush? A couple chunks of driftwood.

"The wise man avoids involvement in politics, thereafter destined always to be ruled by people dumber than himself." --Don't remember who said this; Plato, Voltaire, Will Rodgers, or someone similar.
