Why do we have to insert card and remove quickly at gas stations?

If you remove the card slowly it probably can't read the strip.

Are you slow or just have never seen or used a credit card previously?

How do ticket automats work then? Where you insert the card, make the transaction and it gives back the card? Or even ATMs for that matter..

Those have motors and they read the card on the way in. Rather than spend more money and have millions of people forget their cards in their machines, they just decided to make it manual.

Why don't ATMs do it that way? It annoys me when someone leaves their card in the machine before I use it. Then I have to go through the hassle of returning it.

I think it's more of a precaution. Dont they confiscate the card if you fvck up the PIN too many times?
