Why would they do that..they may end up being called a super-green hippie...

:p

My point is why complain about some plastic and paper bags when people already reuse them for stuff?

But people who re-use them are by definition being super-green hippies. We're talking about normal Americans who chuck everything after using it once.

So you're saying Deeko and Amused are, in turn, themselves being "super green hippies" if they reuse their plastic bags?

They can't be, they are not fully reusing the bag...there is 80% of it left of air because dogs shit's are so small it cannot fill the whole bag up..now if they let there dog shit in there yard for a week and got it all at once, then they are super duper hippies.

I'd say you and your hippy buddies are more stressed about this than I am. I'm just stating the facts. If it comes down to me having no choice but to carry the bag, obviously I will (I ignored that question earlier because it's seriously the stupidest question that's ever been asked), until then I won't.

my hippy buddies? Why are you assuming everyone I know thinks like this?

I get that you do not want to change, unless it is cost effective, but it COULD help the environment, if you started, then maybe you tell 3 of your friends, etc and it trickles down..no more need for plastic bags/paper bags.

Your hippy buddies = the other hippies crying in this thread. I'm not going to do this because it "could" help the environment, and I'm most CERTAINLY not going to go all hippy-tool and try to force it onto my friends.

Yeah, on average, my weekly family grocery trip probably ends up being 15-20 bags.

woofta...weekly is 15 bags? Get 2-3 reusable ones and that should cover it.

We used to get 6 or so plastic bags before we started using reusable bags and it all fit in the one...or two we had...only one trip from the car, as opposed to 2-3.

There's no way I'm carrying all of our weekly groceries in 2-3 bags. Are these things the size of duffel bags or something?

OK fine then I'm a super-green hippie because I reuse plastic bags. Can people get off my back now for driving a car that gets less than 30 mpg? :p

 to them for dealing with the non-super-hippies laziness then.

LOL!!!

It has nothing to do with recycling and everything to do with economics. I re-porpose plastic grocery bags for garbage and other uses because they are free and easily available. I would not be able to do that with paper because paper is not waterproof.

Way back when I smoked and drank soda I used soda cans and bottles for ashtrays in the garage. Was a being a greenie then too?

who says I am forcing you to do it? Who says I am forcing anyone to do it? I am just stating that it irks me how wasteful plastic bags/paper bags are...

reusable > recyclable.

Americans like change. But that change must be profitable, convenient and make sense.

Plastic recycling is none of the above... not to mention it creates more pollution and is worse for the environment than simply throwing it away.

Like I said before, if seeing plastic bags at the supermarket irked you, you have way too comfortable of a life and obviously are LOOKING for something to bother you.

Besides, they're used for trash bags, cleaning up cat litter, choking hobos to death, and picking up dog poop.

I've found you can combine several of those actions into 1 single bag without issues. :)

I did not want to sound like an elitist...but the only change that is acceptable is one that saves everyone money, it could destroy the world, but who cares as long as I save a few bucks...right, that is a good way to think.

I was not looking for something to bother me, it was one of the few times I had not had my brown sack to carry stuff in.

Oh, and ATOT was really slow today, so I thought i'd start some action.

It's a realistic way to think. Plastic recycling makes absolutely no sense, environmentally, economically or socially. It's feel-good nonsense.

If you don't see bums picking it out of the trash, it's not worth recycling.

And I see you are bringing out the emotional arguments again. Now plastic bags are going to destroy the world??? Wow...

I?m not one of those guys who corners folks at parties to rant at them about biodiesel or calls people ?fucking idiots? for being skeptical about global warming. But I should also point out that I?m not one of those Andrew Dice Clay ?Fuck the whales? types either.

The problem with all the bravado on both sides of the ecology debate is that nobody really knows what they?re talking about. Trying to form opinions on climate change, overpopulation, and peak oil hinges on ginormous leaps of faith based around tiny statistical deviances that even the scientists studying them have a hard time understanding. It gets so convoluted with all the yelling and the politics that sometimes you just want something huge and incontrovertibly awful to come along for everybody to agree on. Something you can show anyone a picture of and go, ?See? We?re fucked.?

http://www.viceland.com/int/v1...s/oh_this_is_great.php

There were a few water striders and tiny jellyfish here and there, but they were totally overwhelmed by a thick confetti of plastic particles. It looked like a snow globe made of garbage. Based on previous samples, Moore estimated the ratio of plastic to the regular components of seawater in what we were pulling up as 6 to 1. As we moved closer to the middle of the Gyre, the ratio got visibly higher, until we started pulling in samples that looked like they contained solely plastic.

This is the part of the trip that weighs heaviest on my mind. It?s terrible enough to litter sections of the planet with things that can conceivably be removed?I mean, even oil spills and radioactive dust can be cleaned up to a certain extent. But to fundamentally alter the composition of seawater at one of the farthest points from civilization on the globe is a whole different ballpark of fucking the planet. It?s fucking it right up the ass, for good and forever. Without lube.
