Why do we fear death?

Is it because its painful? I doubt it... Death accompanied by pain is bad... but I don't think the actual act of death is painful.

Because probably within everyone, they all have a fear that there might be nothing after death.

Because we like being able to do things, experience things, think, feel, etc. You can't do that if you're dead.

for me, its the fear of the ultimate unknowing....
that and i don't want to be forgotten, i fear my life will be nothing important and then when i die, i will be forgotten. 🙁

Why we fear death: Since, in our experience, we have always existed (this is on a person-to-person basis), we cannot fathom there being a total lack of our existence. No consciousness. Nothing, zip, nada. Not even a permanent black or white, because there are no eyes to see black or white and no brain to know of black and white.

This is also one reason I believe people invented religions, as an extension of the idea of an afterlife, because we couldn't deal with the idea that we just turn off, we believed we had to keep existing.

That's like saying, "There's only one reason I believe people discount religions. They're afraid of an afterlife and where they'll end up."

couldnt've put it better myself

And I am not frightened of dying, any time will do, I don't mind. Why should I be frightened of dying? There's no reason for it, you've gotta go sometime.
