why do we censor sites when even the mods themselves have no problem with them?

I'm just curious why this remains a "no-no" site when others apparently have no issue with it. The way I thought it would work is:

1.) Keep the censored site unnamed because it was censored for a reason.

2.) Uncensor it because it's actually trustworthy.

So I guess I don't understand why it's censored at all if people have ordered from it without a problem. Just seems to add frustration and force people to work around the filter (which as I know it is against the rules).

Usually they're censored because someone or several someones spammed us repeatedly with links to there. We don't care if you order from them, we just aren't allowing their site to be linked to from here due to spam abuse that occurred on their behalf.

I thought that was the reason, but censoring the URL or name doesn't stop the spam... does it? At least in my mind I'd expect that if a spammer gets in the posts will be made regardless whether it's censored or not. That's just my assumption though. I have no idea how the spam amount was affected after the censor.

The purpose of censoring the URLs isn't to directly block the spam, but rather to destroy the effectiveness of it (we have suckers, even here). We can't have something instantly deleted as spam based on censored words, so this is the next best option.

Plus while we do try to get all the spam, some of it does make it through, which long-term is an issue if it shows up in search results.

Also, although there's no proof that it's true, I believe that a lot of repeat spammers stop repeating after they notice their site is on the censor list. How often do you notice people posting censored links? We're usually a little stingy with the censors - we often wait until a site has been spammed multiple times before adding it to the censored list.

Hilarious. Perk defeats the filter, then threatens whats-her-face with getting infracted for thread crapping.

Pure gold.

No one "spams" the forums - it's the result of paranoid admins that think the site is trying to "take over" or some nonsense.

EK - you should know this better than anyone - and I take offense at the "undesirable" comment. Dick.

This isn't Off Topic. Be excellent to each other.

Recruitment efforts by undesirables😕

That's an interesting statement. Recruitment to me indicates an organized approach to increasing membership. I've never seen any evidence of that at ****.
Undesirables is a purely subjective term in this context. A more accurate description would be "a few people that annoyed the AT mods". Though I doubt that's the real issue because we used to have long threads here about ****, where a couple mods were members. No one minded "undesirables" then. It seems to me that the reason **** is censored is that Perknose is pretty badly maligned in CHAOS. Honestly, I understand the reasoning behind that, but I don't think it should hidden behind a silly term like "undesirables". We're all adults here, we can take the truth.

Some are adults.

Some can even act like it.

Many act like spoiled children.:colbert:

I have no idea what you guys are rambling about, but since it doesn't have anything to do with spam control it's off topic.
