Why do you need to be able to speak your mind? Why do you need to be able to go to your church/synagogue/temple/mosque/etc? Why do you need to be protected from unreasonable search if you're not doing anything wrong? The list goes on...

There are whole books written on that topic, why we need these inalieanble rights. Take John Stuart Mill, for starters. "On Liberty" addresses many of the questions you just asked. It doesn't say anything about guns.

It's like a condom. I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

I had a guy in a pickup follow me today most of the way to work. He was riding my ass and weaving around looking to pass (I guess 50 in a 30 wasn't fast enough for him on windy, hilly, country roads). I slowed down to let him pass and that only pissed him off more, he almost hit me while passing then proceeded to break check me 3 or 4 times while giving me the finger. Had this man blocked my path and attempted to assault me I felt good knowing I had my XD right on my side ready to dissuade him.

Luckily my turn came and he went on his merry way.

Customer, Early for Lunch, Allegedly Fires Shots in McDonald's

Monday, March 30, 2009

SALT LAKE CITY ? Police said a customer fired one or two shots into a Salt Lake City McDonald's after the driver of the car he was in was told the restaurant was not serving lunch yet.

Police said the female driver of a white Dodge Intrepid pulled up to the drive-thru and ordered from the lunch menu early Sunday but was told only breakfast was available.

Police said two men then got out of the car and one pulled a sawed-off shotgun from the trunk, shooting into the drive-thru window once or twice, The Salt Lake Tribune reported Monday. No one was injured.

The car then left the scene.

Sawed offs are illegal in my state

EDIT:

Randomly firing into restaurants is already illegal in all states.

I believe sawed-off shotguns are illegal in most states, are they not?

Edit: IBS beat me to it.

Actually my penis makes me feel like a man. My firearm makes me feel like I am safe when faced with a potential for bodily harm.

Fights/encounters with rules, IE MMA matches, there are rules that make you a man or not.

Fights/encounters IRL, there are no rules. If someone endangers your life or your family, you can empty your clip at their balls and that won't make you less of a man.

I'll be dirty and cheap as I can if my life is endangered. Fuck honor/man code.

It'd make you kinda stupid though, much more effective places to shoot people ;)

Pro-gun idiots always say we shouldn't ban guns because the bad guys will still get guns.

Just because bad people do bad things is irrelevant to this discussion. People will still kill people, but that doesn't mean we should lift the ban on committing murder.

At least half the people in the country are morons who I wouldn't trust with a gun. Most of these people are CURRENTLY able to buy guns. Just because a person has lived a lawful life up to now, doesn't mean they will do so in the future. I've seen people get into fistfights over park spots......now what if these people were both armed in the same populated parking lot?

If everyone had guns, and there was a dispute or altercation......I know I would not want to be a cop in a world where anyone and everyone is most likely armed.

If you consider many of these school shootings, these people are not always criminals by heart......these are not home invasions, they are not burglaries.....these are troubled young people who have easy access to firearms. Many of these little punks would never have been able to commit these crimes if it were not that easy to obtain a firearm.

When two people have a gun......and they both know it, the mindset of "shoot or be shot" can sink in which just makes things worse.

As someoone who had a violent past I can tell you what happens. When you get a gun and get into a silly fight over a parking spot you politely remove yourself from the situation.

Why?

Because if you continue the path you are on them you know that someone is going to get really hurt and probably killed. You know this is not going to be some little altercation and a slap on the wrist, but a prison sentence, the loss of life (possibly yours) and your expensive weapon is going to be taken from you (and your ability to carry it) forever.

So wearing a firearm has kept me out of fights. Not by wielding it or brandishing it. Simply by knowing the responsibility of what I am wearing. Rather then say that smart ass comment back or push the guy and call him a pussy. I keep my mouth shut, apologize and walk away. Because I know that if I don't, one of us is going to end up dead. That is a very harsh reality.

If more people realized how many around them were armed, they would be much more polite.
