I was just asking because my friend is vegetarian and his sister would always critize him for eating eggs. She would say "WHY DONT YOU EAT MEAT?? YOU EAT EGGS EGGS ARE MEAT!1" She also critized him for not eating Ramen noodles because the little packet thingy has cooked dried chicken in it. So he stopped eating eggs.

obviously she is as ignorant as you are.... EGGS ARE NOT MEAT.... they are protein and other good stuff, but until they are fertilized and begin developing they are not meat.

now if your friend eats Balut, that is a different story.

is he a vegetarian for health reasons or ethical reasons?

I doubt it's ethical. Probably health. In his family, high cholesterol seems to be hereditary. I think he is just trying to be careful, I guess.

If cholesterol is a problem then shouldn't eggs be one of the first things to go? 😕

NO! That's a common misconception. Although eggs contain cholesterol, there has never been any conclusive evidence that eating eggs raises levels of cholesterol in the blood. (see the simpsons episode with that secret society.) The bulk of the evidence indicates that eating saturated fats raises cholesterol, eating cholesterol does not. This makes a lot of sense seeing that most cholesterol is synthesized endogenously.

If the Simpsons say it, it has to be true.

There are different kinds of vegetarians. Ovo, lacto, pesco, vegan... not sure what else there is. Basically, they justify consuming eggs or milk or whatever based on their morals and oppinions. Not much more to it than that.

and religious beliefs also have a lot to do with it

i was watching "attack of the show" on G4 and apparently, everything in japan is topped with an egg (hambugers, spaghetti, etc.)

An egg isn't a chicken. When you are eating an egg you are eating the stuff that a chicken embryo WOULD feed on, were the egg fertilized. It's basically equivalent to milk.

it's not meat

How so? It's a baby chicken you are eating.

it's not a chicken yet! I bet you are pro-life :|

If it aint a chicken, what the hell is it?

No, I am not pro life. I'm eating a burger as we speak. Cows= teh yummy

it had the potential to be a chicken, but it's not a chicken until it's fertized and shlt

i mean hell that burger you are eating has a potential to be a part of your brain, but is it a part of yourbrain?! hell no!

So if I ate a human embryo, does that make me a cannibal? It had the potential to be a human.

It also CAME FROM a human, so yes.

So when someone swallows...... they're committing cannabalism? 😕

I think eating an egg doesn't kill a living thing because the egg itself is unfertilized so theres no chance of life to begin with and it doesn't kill the hen when you eat the egg. Although this is debatable given the practices the industry employs

A better question then why do they eat eggs is why do they not eat steak?
Some will say health, others will say for the good of the animals, and others will say religion.
Just STFU and eat and enjoy. That's all I have to say aboot that.

Vegetarians eat eggs...VEGANS do not. Vegans do not eat meat nor the products from animals. They won't even drink milk.
many also believe milk is an animals infected puss excreted in painfull methods using pumps that cause the animals to bleed internally. and that cows are sent here by aliens to kill us all. (I loved that Amish show)

and me who is having cereals while reading this :disgust:...good i'm not affected by this...
