Why do vegans gimp themselves?

I am fairly certain Halal doesn't disallow stunning of an animal pre slaughter, just that it is not killed by a blunt weapon, but rather killed via exsanguination from the throat. As, blood is forbidden to be consumed (and in the 2nd century would be highly likely to unsanitary, same with pig meat).

The consciousness of the animal that halal slaughter process mandates is a big part of the controversy surrounding it. The nervous system cannot be damaged (severing of the spinal cord) therefore the animal feels all of it until expiring from exsangination. Yes the blade cant be damaged or serrated.

This is pretty much the only part of vegans that I actually dislike. I don't give a shit what someone eats (strangely, that is exactly the same stance I have on a lot things). But, just shut the fuck up about it. I don't care how these chickens, cows, pigs, horses, dog, whatever were treated or raised or looked. The only thing I care about is how they taste.

Vegans are just slightly under the crossfit level of annoying fuckwads who feel the need to tell everyone their thoughts.

Has anyone here actually met an evangelical vegan? Just curious. I know a few & most of them keep their beliefs to themselves. I've personally never really run into anyone randomly pushing their vegan beliefs on me. I have seen vegans get uptight when a meat eater pushes them, but that's about it, and to be expected if you pushed anyone on any of their beliefs. Makes for a popular stereotype on TV, at least.

There's some videos of it on YouTube that look pretty brutal. Problem is you can never know if the animal was stunned or not. I make a point of avoiding halal and kosher meats. If it were up to me, I'd buy everything farm fresh and free range. But that's not exactly easy or cheap anymore.

You're lucky then. I've had random people stop me and comment on my meat. Generally, a simple 'fuck off' does the trick. Granted, I've also had evangelical Christians stop and try to comment on my lifestyle in parking lots.

And, then you get the facebook warriors always posting stupid shit. But, vegans aren't the most annoying. The facebook political pundits and crossfitters rule that roost.

I have mixed feelings on it. I think there's a lot of reasons why people go vegan. I understand not wanting to kill animals, but at the same time, lions kill & eat animals and we are animals too - are there any vegan lions out there?

I've tried the vegan diet & a fair amount of my diet is plant-based, but part of that is due to food allergies & part of that is due to how good I feel on a whole-foods, plant-based diet. But like you said, flavors - bacon is awesome, burgers are awesome, chicken is awesome, steak is awesome, etc. One of the flaws in the vegan diet is that you can't get vitamin B12 from plants, so you have to take supplements - if it were a complete diet, then you'd be able to get everything you need from it without supplements. If you were vegan 200 years ago, before pharmaceuticals from chemical factories got big, how would you get those supplements without ingesting a meat-based product?

I do think it's a healthier diet than what a lot of people eat, especially in America. I have friends who literally live on fast food & eat out for every single meal...I'm pretty sure eating fresh veggies is a healthier lifestyle than that, haha.

Technically, they could be hurting people. If the animal population wasn't kept in check, it could cause large problems to an ecosystem. The idea that animals shouldn't be killed go against the way the world works. Sure, that is a bit abstract, but it could happen.

I've never understood why anyone would willing go gluten-free. I have to because I feel like crap if I eat it. Why why why would you give up bread, pasta, deli meat (yes they add gluten to it), hamburger & hotdog buns, pizza, dinner rolls, donuts, bagels, paninis, calzones, cookies, and all of the other wonderful culinary creations that are wheat-based? I'm not bitter I'm not bitter I'm not bitter

Granted, the only people I've seen (i.e. celebrities) & met (primarily vegans looking to take the "next step") who adopt a GF lifestyle by choice are girls, so my assumption would be that it's perceived as the new fat-loss diet, a la Atkins - no bread = no fat. But then again, diets have never made sense to me because they're temporary programs designed to give temporary results, then you go back to whatever your "normal" was before - it has to be a complete lifestyle change in order for it to stick, and people don't associate eating healthy with eating well (that is, eating tasty food that is easy to make), which is definitely something I can understand because it's taken me a long time to figure out how to cook healthier food options that actually taste good, haha.

Well, at least you know what sort of person you're dealing with, when they base their diet on research which is even considered to be faulty by the person who did the research.

Yeah, it's a pain. Not as bad as corn tho. I can't do grains; corn gives me a mega-headache, and they stick that crap in everything. Those 40,000 products on store shelves are all an illusion - they're all just corn with flavorings & dyes :thumbsdown:

Basically it's the consumer-sheep principle: whatever is in fashion will be sold, regardless of the reality of the product. So if "gluten-free" is popular, then you can slap a sticker on a chemical list & people will buy it. For example, Domino's Pizza has a gluten-free crust option now; one of the ingredients is Avicel, which is a brand name for cellulose. They are literally selling you sawdust in your food now:

The best part is that selling wood as food is completely legal. It falls under GRAS (generally recognized as safe) since it's been around for 30+ years. They use it in stuff like vitamin pills & low-fat foods because it makes you feel full, but doesn't have any negative (or positive) effect on your body:

I was in new Orleans on Bourbon street, drunk, and buying a hot dog from the dude with the cart (he promised me he would make a Chicago Style dog), and some vegan guy was like "you should get a veggie dog beucase something or other".) That is evangelizing. I simply told him that a veggie dog is lacking in beef therefore, not an option since they do not come with bacon.
