Why do they yell at each other on Wall Street?

Serious question. I have a vague idea, but I'm wondering exactly what/why they are shouting back and forth on the trading floor.

Not to sound like I'm completely ignorant (too late), but you'd think in today's advanced communication world those people could just sit down in front of a computer and be civil about it all instead of yelling and pushing like maniacs.

Is it just for the sake of tradition or maybe security or is this still the optimal form of getting things done?

I don't know, but when it comes to money and short timing, a free-for-all is very much expected.

Voice communication is faster than electronic.

And you get the confirmation immediately.

motion creates emotion. you should see the trading floors at banks, less yelling at each other, more yelling on the phone or just random yelling.

i have never been to the trading floors in my floor (not allowed to), but apparently they are filthy.
