Why do they wax fruits in the US?

In Japan, they usually have a natural matte finish (ie: just cleaned very well and not polished or waxed). I think the wax makes the fruits look very cheap and the thought of my teeth grinding into a thin layer of candle makes me sick. What does you think?

It is actually to keep them fresher longer.
Hence why you are supposed to wash your veggies and fruit before you eat them. That and the fact that some guy that jacked off before going to the store was fondling all the stuff before you got there.

I'm more worried about the immigrants that work the fields during harvest......

They can't afford to take bathroom breaks.
