Why do they use tamper-proof fasteners on bathroom stalls?

OK, I know the purpose of tamper-proof fasteners (one-way screws, Torx fasteners, etc) is to keep ordinary Joes from messing with them. I.E. lots of folks have a four-way screwdriver on their keychain, etc. (I do. :))

But WHY on the partitions that make up the stalls in the bathroom? I mean, who is going to try to disassemble the stall while they are sitting there taking care of business?

I've always wondered about this...and now seemed as good a time as any to ask?

Examples of tamper-proof screws for those that have no idea WTH I'm talking about.

Because one too many college students have gotten bored and tried to liven up the restrooms.

You also have to look at the problem of having multiple screws, why have two types when one does the job and no possible screwups.

I guess you don't want those stall walls at home, damn there goes one gift idea. :D

there is a bathroom here where the stalls do not have doors anymore, because people kept on drilling holes into the walls, approximately 2 inches in diameter. you can guess what was going on...

it's a crazy world out there...

I must say that in a pinch they make great room partitions.

Yeah man, for YEARS now, I've pondered this thought. I'll be standing there/sitting there depending on the situation...and I'll look at the way the plastic partitions are attatched to the brackets and the wall. I say to myself:

Self, that's really freakin' stupid

There must be a good reason.

Time to get some of those oneway screws and start attaching things everywhere. I've always wondered if there was an non-destructive way to take those out.

Maybe I should've used a oneway screw to hold down my Cordless Telephone base, some damn fool walked off with it. :)

A couple years ago I was a Resident Assistant in my dorm. My residents took it upon themselves to figure out a way around the tamper proof screws. They managed to disassemble the entire bathroom and after a quick cleaning they had themselves multiple surfaces to play beer pong and other such drinking games.

So there's one reason for you.

You answered your own question, because people will unscrew them. At least this way it's slightly more challenging to remove what little privacy is there.
