Why do they say peanuts have so much fat?

So, nuts have a lot of fat, everyone knows that. But peanuts are not really nuts. They are legumes. Legumes have very little if any material amounts of fat. So then why do they say peanuts have so much fat? Something's rotten about this whole thing...

Ever seen all the oil floating on the top of a jar of natural peanut butter?

Is the OP trying for an autobiographical allegory? 260lbs, McDonalds frequenter. Pube soap maker, Aliexpress chick pic chaser.

1oz of peanuts has 14g of fat.

I usually eat 6-8oz of it ground into peanut butter, sometimes for multiple consecutive days. So that is 84-114 g of fat.

No, I am not Fat Bastard despite that level of consumption. I'm 130lbs, 60.1kgs.

Also great source of alfatoxins if you're not careful. Which is why even "hand-me-down" axioms in China exist saying not to eat peanut butter during this current time of period of the spring, because they are not in season.

A quarter-cup of peanuts (the approximate amount in a 2 tablespoon serving of peanut butter) contains:

  • Calories: 207
  • Protein: 9 grams
  • Fat: 18 grams
  • Carbohydrates: 6 grams
  • Fiber: 3 grams
  • Sugar: 1 gram

The "rotten" part COULD well be on your end! ;)

He'd probably lose weight if he started eating only salty nuts day after day...similar to the potato diet. 8oz of peanut butter in the morning, nothing for the rest of the day is only 1280 calories.

LOL..... wat? No, never. Now, mind you, I ain't opened or even seen a peanut butter jar for probably 3.5 decades at a minimum, but no I don't ever remember oil or anything else floating in my Jif peanut butter jar, I would have thrown that mofo out a window if I saw something floating in there LOL....

The use of fully hydrogenated oils(oftentimes palm) keeps most peanut butters in a stable, solid state; that is because saturated fats are more "stable" and solidify at room temperature. Peanut butters that list only peanuts will have the peanut oil separate from the solid material as that oil is mostly unsaturated fats.

Brands like Jiff or Skippy have stabilizing agents in them to prevent the oil from separating from the rest of the nut butter. If you went to the store and bought an all natural brand without stabilizers in it you could see how much oil separates from the ground nuts. It's quite impressive. I rarely buy nut butter without stabilizers in it because it's so inconvenient when it separates on me.
