Why do they always send the poor?

Victorious, victorious steel
Can your spending kneel?
Marching forward hypocritic
And hypnotic computers
You depend on our protection
Yet you feed us lies from the tablecloth
La la la la la la la la la la
Everybody is going to the party
Have a real good time
Dancing in the desert
Blowing up the sunshine
Kneeling roses
Disappearing into Moses' dry mouth
Breaking into Fort Knox
Stealing our intentions
Every city, gripped in oil
Crying freedom!
Handed to obsoletion
Still you feed us lies from the tablecloth
la la la la la la la la la la
Everybody is going to the party
Have a real good time
Dancing in the desert
Blowing up the sunshine
Everybody is going to the party
Have a real good time
Dancing in the desert
Blowing up the sunshine
Blast off, it's party time
And we all live in a fascist nation
Blast off, it's party time
And where the fvck are you?
Where the fvck are you?
Where the fvck are you?
Why don't presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why don't presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?

:music:

of course only about half of that song can you understand when its sung. but overall its a good song, i still need the album though

soad is one of the only groups that cause me to change the station when they are played. it isn't because they are loud or "political", because most of the music I like is loud and/or "political". I just think they completely suck baby jesus' balls.

I think Aerial is pretty gripping. It's an awesome song.

i'd call "mezmerize" one of the best albums to come out in the last 5 years or so. SOAD is finally living up to their potential as artists, which is a great relief because i've seen so many promising bands release horrible records in the last few years. there is more raw songwriting in the first 2 tracks alone than you find in 90% of rock records these days.

they are fast becoming the frank zappas of hard rock, with songs that defy predictability, intricate chord and rhythmic stuctures, sarcastic humor and bitter political commentaries, tongue-in-cheek musical references, and effortless skill at their instruments. it's such a breath of fresh air to hear heavy music played by people who aren't stuck in 7th grade, like 99% of metal bands.

that they've done this with a minumum of studio trickery and computer-fixed vocals and drums, AND have scored a major hit single with a song that is the most complicated rock single since Tool released Laturalus while also making fun of nearly every other hit song to come out in recent memory and offering up a controversial political stance is nothing short of mind-blowing. they've also created a unique and instantly identifiable sound, and have a production style that is unique among modern rock bands. i had long assumed the american public were no longer capable of rewarding talent, and i personally believe 90% of the people who hear BYOB will think SOAD are serious when they sing "everybody's going to the party" and not get that it's a reference to Iraq, but regardless of whether or not people are getting it, at least a band that deserves recognition is getting some.
