It's not. There are 1 billion Muslims in the world. There are not 1 billion muslims in the middle east, not even close. The majority of them are not even Arabs.

Well for one India has 100 million Muslims+ and Indonesia has 160 Million Muslims

Read the posts on this forum, all references to Muslims are linked to Middle East/Arabs. Especially with lets nuke the middle east to get rid of all Muslims thread.

until the 1940s they were the middle east, the only reason anyone says the middle east is what is supposed to be the near east, and was for all of european history before that, is because some morons stenciled 'middle east' on some crates due for the near east in WWII.

Just a hunch, but I think it might just have something to do with Muslims facing the Kabbah in Mecca for prayers five times a day, and that Arabic is the only language in which the Koran is to be read. I think most Americans realize there are Muslims in places other than the Middle East, but Arab Muslims are the first ones that typically come to mind. Kinda like when you say Mormon, most people think Utah.

while you guys argue over the finer points of geographic classification i think the more pertinent point that in every one of those regions the same problem with militant islam thriving has been forgotten.

indonesia, afghanistan, iran, india, etc...etc.

whether they are arab or not or considered middle eastern or not does not mean a $#$^ thing. many still want to kill you since you are an "infidel"

Actually its slightly over 20% if I beleive right....defintely not the majority by any means.
