When I installed my Audigy, I installed the Mixer, and the drivers. That is all. And it took FOREVER. Installing video drivers takes oh...5 seconds. This took 5 minutes. WHY? How complex is this equipment that it requires so many files? How many files are usually being installed. I don't think I understand the sheer complexity of the sound card. Also..it's also the one thing that gave me problems with my old computer, when I installed the drivers, the PC would lock up.

I haven't really asked a question here, so, my question is, how many files are being installed when I install my sound card? Cause it takes forever. All it does is play sound for gods sake.

What do you own, buddy? A 286? :)

Driver installation takes a few SECONDS. Creative Labs tend to include dozens of useless programs, all those applets and tools, and that takes up a lot of space, that's why SB installation takes a while. Hardware detection and configuration itself takes seconds.

"Why do sound card drivers take so long to install?"

The answer is that they don't.

"When I installed my Audigy..."

Bingo, just answered your own question! :D

Creative is suck. The Win2K Santa Cruz drivers installed on my Celeron 450 in
less than 15 seconds. God damn Creative.

Lol. All I installed was Creative Mixer, and the drivers. Given. Creative installed the Restore Defaults, Diagnostics, and Users Guide. But, still! After I installed them, every time I boot up, windows has recovered from a critical error, and wants me to send them an error report. Plus, my boot takes forever!! They really need to be like video card drivers. Small amount of files (9 is it?) and quick, no slow boot times, no errors. Anyone know how many files make up the Windows Drivers? Lol. ATI had about 30 files...but they suck. ;)

How is the Audigy compared to the Live!? I know that when I installed my Live!, the registry was overrun by Creative and this hinders the operating of the system cause of all that junk in there. The Audigy is supposedly less cpu intensive as well, is this the case?
