Why do some people stay signed onto AIM for only little use?

After a quick count, there are 7 people right now on my AIM list of the 29 online on my list that will stay signed on all day all the time, some don't even bother putting an away message.

What is the point to leaving it signed on all day for very little use? Sure, some other people not in those 7 are on all day, but they're mostly there when you IM them. Is there some reason I'm missing?

DING DING DING!

It costs NOTHING to stay logged in. Ta-da!

So why waste calories on two whole clicks, when you can just up and leave?

My AIM is on 24/7. Currently at 10 days, 17 hours and 54 minutes. I just leave it logged on, incase someone leaves a message, or to make sure I don't forget to sign in.

If I have been idle (not at the computer) for 15 minutes, my name is greyed. Thats how people know if I'm there or not.

The real question is, why bother signing off ? It's a nice personal message taker even while you're gone. And about the away message, if idling doesn't kick it on... obviously they don't care.

I leave mine on 24/7 but I put up a "sleep" message when I'm done for the day.

i do it all the time. so that when someone i dont want to talk to IMs me, it is not unheard of for me to leave it up with no away message.
