I smoke a pack a month, but when Im drinking, or used to go drinking I should say, I would smoke up 2 packs of smokes in the 5-6 hours at the bar, one right after the other. There is just something about a beer and a shot that makes me just crave a smoke to go with it at all times.

I havent lit up a smoke now in 2 months, dont crave one neither, but if I opened a beer Id be driving to the local gas station to buy a pack for the craving will over come me to have one with it. Go figure, never understood it either op, just that if you were a smoker you'd prolly be doing the same as your friends.

A cigarette is best when you're drinking. Something about the heavier breathing. Before I quit, the hardest thing preventing me from quitting was that it went along with drinking so well.

Congrats!

I've been smoke free since December here .... quitting sucks, but it gets better over time.

I used to do it for a couple of reasons.

1) If I was in a bar I was probably already inhaling a lot of other people's smoke anyway.
2) I could bum a cigarette without having to buy an entire pack that I wouldn't smoke.
3) Drinking lowers inhibitions.
4) I would get one hell of a buzz.

I don't do it anymore because I got sick of tasting the cigarette when I woke up the next morning (despite brushing my teeth and tongue).

I smoke when I drink for one reason. It makes me get a really nice buzz, although it increases the chance of me getting a hangover the next morning.

I think in a year, I drink less than a ½ gallon of liquor, and smoke less than a pack of cigarettes, so I don't really think it is much of a big deal. I absolutely hate the taste of both items, and could never see myself doing it regularly.

This is true. In college, I only smoked when I drank. Hated the smell, never jonesed for it, etc. But with a beer... Light one up, take a few easy drags, followed by a few sips, then take a huge drag, holding it in while I downed half a beer, then exhale. The buzz was tremendous. Almost passed out once.

It makes you have a really awful hangover.

Happily though, I've had maybe five cigarettes in the last 12 years. Pretty much gave it up after school.

I've heard that drinking and not smoking, is like
taking a dump without peeing! I do both, just funny to hear it put that way!

As microsoft would say, part of it is "the social." Most bars/clubs are really quite loud so it's hard to meet people, but it's easy to talk to someone out front who's smoking and bored. I don't just mean girls - just 2 days ago I had a nice conversation with a guy who was telling me about how his trip to vermont was screwed up by the confusing weather here up north. Random conversation that would not have happened if it not were for cigarettes!

I quit yesterday, trying cold turkey but I might forgive myself for endulging while drinking - it does feel very good (the combination is great. The combination with a 3rd substance I quit a year ago is even better, but let's be good boys and girls) and you get into strange conversations because of it.

I might get cigars for when I go out drinking . 3 cigars vs. a pack of cigarettes... Dunno how one is any better, but the craving is intense when you're out and about.

my guess is that they are wannabees. they drink, loosen up, and wanna smoke thinking its cool.

now if you are smoker and trying to quit, dont drink alcohol, because you will be smoking in no time.
