why do some people say "axe" when i think they mean to say "ask"?

I'm pretty sure most people who say "axe" can say it the correct way if they want to.

Not everyone speaks proper English all the time.

They do it to save you the time of deducting that they're a moron. It's a real time saver.

They are too lazy to make the "S" and "K" sounds when it is so much easier to just pronouce "X".

But you know what's worse than the the guy/gal who says "axe?" The person who corrects them, out loud, in front of other people.. Usually in a condescending manner.. Let people be! Of course, I don't normally associate myself with someone who speaks that way, but correcting them isn't actually going to build a better relationship either.
