WHY do some people pay so much for webhosting?!

i'm absolutely baffled.

i overheard one of my colleauges speaking of some webhost he has, and how cheap it is. some other people gathered around him were like man for that price i should get my own website. i work at a bank, so these guys are IT retards.

i ask him wait, how much are you paying? he said 300 bucks a year.
i say, what are you getting?
he says "like 20MB hosting, oh wait- no- i think its 50MB. and 10 email accounts."

i'm like WTF??? so of course i reccommend him places that would give him a whole lot more for that price.

just don't get it. people can be so clueless as to prices these days.

I pay roughly $600 a year for my dedicated server, of which all but about $100 is paid for by people I host. Hopefully Dwell will get money from ads and hook a brotha up

and AT geek + dedicated server = huge potential. you make maximum use of it features/ processing wise.

but clueless banker + internet = oh oh. we're in trouble here.

although its people like those who you can have fun with ripping off. "oh emails? we charge 10 cents per outgoing email and only 5 cents for incoming! you will be billed monthly on that and the charge will automatically go to your credit card"

They don't send you a check until you hit $100. Since I started with ads I have only gotten $33 and 75% of it was from my weblog. At this rate I won't get a check until next April Hey, let's screw everyone and make pics a subscription service

Since the router issues at the server farm, we've had over three months of solid uptime. I'm very happy with them right now. Glad you're satisfied as well.

you answered your own question... they are IT retards. If people don't care enough to comparison shop, then it's their own damn fault. Honestly if they cared, they'd take the 5 minutes and hop on the Internet they pay for and do some quick searching. All you can do in your position is try and set them straight but they may want to protect their ego instead.
