Why do some people on Myspace want to have hundreds of friends?

I get friends invites from people who have nothing in commom with me everyday. Most of these people already have hundreds of friends, I would only send a friend invite to those people with whom I have things in common.
What does it say about people who have hundreds of friends?

I have 150... about 75 I know... went to school with, blah blah. The other 75 were people that added me... some from forums (2 from here)... about 8 from other ones. Some from other online communuies. Some were girls that just added me, and i figured they were cute, so whatever.

IT's kinda crazy how some people add friends, I know there was one girl who went through facebook and added everyone who went to our high school as a friend, i hvae no idea why i guess she just wanted to feel loved.

I also know another girl on facebook who has like 500 people as friend...but she seems to know eerybody so that's acually a believeable number.

i state right in my info that if i get a friend request and they don't even bother saying hi in a message they get denied, no matter how good looking they are

I have a bunch of people add me everyday. I don't know these people, nor do I want to talk to them. But I accept anyway. I guess if it makes them feel better?

I just add friends to people I actually know. Which is very few people.

But that's ok.
