Why do some DVDs come with silly cardboard sleeves?

Case in point: Spider-Man 2. What's the deal with the sleeve? I think they're completely pointless.

he's thinking of cardboard only. we're talking sleeves which go over normal plastic cases.

i like having both. the plastic as backup. just cardboard sucks since it doesn't wear well.

Yes, I was thinking of cardboard sleeves. As for a paper over sleeve (I've never seen one)...maybe to make it more noticable to customers?

oh its only cardboard? bah. i didn't buy spidey 2 so i didn't know. plenty of dvds are plastic cases inside paper slip covers.. like some of disneys.. like beauty and the beast for one. and yes, its for looks. pure cardboard..meh i have someof those too, think my fightclub is that.
