Why do some cops go out of their way to make it seem like they're...

Last week I was driving back from picking up something to eat. It was around 9:30pm so the traffic on the road was very light, almost nonexistant so I was going a little faster than I should (50-55mph) in a 40 or 45 zone. I go through an intersection and what do you know there's police car sitting in the left turn lane. It was a red for him since mine was still solid green. He sees me going by pretty fast so he makes a quick u turn with the red and comes right behind me. I thought to myself that I'm getting a ticket for sure but he just keeps following me for about a minute or two and then makes a right turn. I breathe a sigh of relief and continue home...at the speed limit.

Just to make sure you stay in line.

My sister got pulled over because that happened to her but she continued at 10-15 MPH over the speed limit. She deserved it.

Finished with my woman cause she couldnt help me with my mind
People think Im insane because I am browning all the time
All day long I think of things but nothing seems to satisfy
Think Ill lose my mind if I dont find something to pacify

Can you help me thought you were my friend
Whoah yeah

I need someone to show me the things in life that I cant find
I cant see the things that make true happiness, I must be blind

Make a joke and I will sigh and you will laugh and I will cry
Happiness I cannot feel and love to me is so unreal

And so as you hear these words telling you now of my state
I tell you to enjoy life I wish I could but its too late

mission accomplished

QFT. better to prevent than to punish, IMO.

I guarantee he ran your plates for any outstanding warrants in those 1-2minutes.

Maybe he got a more important call.
Or maybe he already meet his quota for the month, and decided you weren't worth it.

He verified that you weren't black.

I was going 15 (55 in a 40, everyone does) over on back roads once to a conveinment mart, cop pulls out of his hiding place and follows me (I slowed down as soon as I saw him) and he followed me for a good 3 miles to the mart and pulls into the parking lot. I was sweating bullets because I had almost 10 points on my liscense at that time...turns out he was just getting coffee. Wheeeeeew.

Bingo. The officer checked your plates for warrants and for the driving record of the car's owner. A lot of times if you have a clean record they will not pull you over in such situations. Now if there were a lot of traffic on the road, you probably would have been pulled over regardless, but much of the time if you're only speeding a little and the road is empty the officer will let you go if your plates come back clean.

yeah he was running ur plates and wanted to see if u continued going over the speed limit and to see ur reaction. most dumb criminals would have most likely started to take off right off the bat thinking that they have been caught.

I got pulled over, going too fast on a back road construction zone at 3:30AM to go fix a broken mail server. I was doing 45, limit was 30 through the short construction zone, cop follows me for about a mile, then flips on his flashing lights. I pull over and he comes up, checks to see if I'm sober, asks me if I know the speed limit, just so happens, I pulled over right in front of a speed limit sign saying it is "45". So, I said... um, 45? he says, drive safe, and I was on my way.

I will pull over if a cop follows me long enough to make me uncomfortable.
Each time the police car has driven right past.

He probably pulled your plates, but he could have been called away or been positioning himself for something else not related to you at all.

Regardless, you did what you should do. Trying to figure out what other people's motivations are is a 50 / 50 proposition at best.

I've had cops point at me if I was going above the speed limit and they were coming from the other direction. but never had one follow me, atleast not that I was aware of.

Same thing happened to me two weeks ago. I got a green arrow for a left, around 10 PM, traffic was decently heavy for the time of night...probably because it was a Friday. I made my left and due to the salt residue on my drivers window I didn't see two drunk idiots crossing in the "do not walk" sign. So I had to swerve into the empty turning lane once they came into my windshield view. Cop saw me, followed me for a good five miles....I just set it to cruise at the speed limit and tap the brake if he gets too close. Eventually I pulled into a friends and he just left.
