I found out few weeks ago from my cousin that DMV area does not require parallel parking as part of their road test.

i heard that on the radio a few weeks ago myself, that they were making that change to the test. so stupid to remove it.

Highways are a bit different here than a lot of other places. Our speed limit is 70MPH but in reality anything under 80 is fine. So during rush hour the left lane will be doing 75-80, the middle lane 70-75 and the right lane is usually for speeding up and slowing down. So if you jump into the right lane doing 80, there is a very good chance someone is going to change into your lane needing to slow down to exit. Even in MI we don't take exit ramps at 80.

yeah we're so behind the times with speed limit laws. i love when i drive down to the outer banks and the speed lmit is like 70 once you hit NC. i typically put the cruise control on 80.

To the OP you are 100% But I have also seen totally clueless people being pulled over by the police when the road has 2 lanes both going one direction and the left and right car are next to each other driving 10mph under the posted speed limit refusing traffic behind both to let them pass.

Restricting normal traffic flow is also illegal and many do not understand that.

I'm here to defend us drivers that drive old crappy cars.

My older car does not have cruise control....and I roll up/down my windows too...And its very slow accelerating. Uphill is the worse....I finally get back to my cruising speed when I'm near the top of the hill.

Its a tad better than my previous old car, the Ford Tempo. That crappy piece of junk stalled going downhill and at the bottom of the hill I had to restart the car and drive again LOL.

is that just an east coast thing? i can't STAND that crap either. i just chalk it up to the idiot drivers and them being lazy. it literally takes like less than a second to turn your turn signal on and you don't even have to turn it off.

A steady foot on the gas pedal will get you better fuel economy but it will cause your speed to vary in hilly areas.

You forgot to mention the right laners doing 65 that shoot across 2 lanes into the far left lane so they can pass the semis doing 60 side by side in the right and middle lanes all the while maintaining that 65 speed in the left lane as they pas the semis. Only in Michigan.

I was stuck behind this the other day. From my onramp to my exit is 4 miles. Plenty of time to stay in the left lane, go with the flow around 80 until the exit. NOPE! One truck decided to pass another truck and it took him the whole 4 miles. I had no choice but to cut the truck off to get to my exit. I feel so bad because that made him have to slow down and he lost all the speed he had built up in those 4 miles. :biggrin:

That last part sounds like my daily commute in and out of downtown Detroit via M-10. Posted limit is 55, some days it's a race track. I do not hesitate to pass idiots driving in the left lane, on the right side

Uphill braking... ug. I make it a point to plan for speed limit changes based on hills and to allow my car to decelerate with the hill to avoid braking... but there are folks that brake for gradual turns. And how the ef do you get to close to someone in front of you to necessitate braking when that person's speed has not changed visibly (IE they also braked)?

Folks that ride to closely... when there are 5-6 cars in a line ahead of them... that pisses me off to no end. If I am not able to pass the 5-6 cars ahead of me, riding my ass is not solving anything.

I hate the ones in front of you that try to merge on at 40 mph. Meanwhile the traffic in your mirror is coming up 20+ mph. Thank God I have a car that will go when I tell it - stupid ass slow mergers don't realize how dangerous they actually are.

It doesn't happen often but it's always that stressful yet completely unnecessary situation when it does.

Another one - people who switch into your passing lane when THEY KNOW you're coming up a good 10mph+ faster then them, forcing you to slow down. And it's even worse when their shitbox can't accelerate. If you have a car capable of doing without slowing down the traffic behind you - go for it. But if you don't, sit and wait for the lane to clear before you move.

My wife's car has Eyesight, which is Subaru's system for Adaptive Cruise Control. It's basically the best feature ever...turn it on when you get on the highway, don't touch the gas or brake until you take the exit off. It's amazing...as close to a self-driving car as I've personally been in. Worth every penny, definitely want it on my next car! :thumbsup:

how much was the option? It's like $2500 in a BMW and unless you drive in rush hour everyday, it's not worth that. Great feature, but I'd pay no more than $1k.

I only use CC for long trips. If I'm going to Lansing or Kzoo or farther. Other than that, I get better gas mileage if I go manual. I made it from the office to the MLK exit in Lansing and only had to brake 4 times. I felt like a super hero!

Must be nice. I used love cc way back, but it's all but useless now. People are so bad at regulating speed, cc is like playing a video game where you're constantly twiddling controls to keep from hitting people. I don't use it anymore, and I wouldn't pay $5 extra to have it on a vehicle.

There isn't much "open" interstate around here. Unless you're driving at 2am, the roads are full of people, and most of them can't drive.
