Why do so many people think that we have a right to police and a military?

Have you ever been in the presence of a multiple warhead nuclear weapon? It's amazing to be in the presence of an apocalypse-maker.

I've been on half the nuclear subs and aircraft carriers in the fleet. A good set of tits is still much more of a turnon.

That, and a well trained and adequately funded military.

That depends. Having a military equal to the next seven largest in the world combined and enough nukes to blow up the world 3 times doesn't help me sleep any more then everyone owning their own private cruise missile would help me sleep.

It really isn't that interesting.

Why on earth would you be around one anyway, aren't you in the Army?

So are you insinuating that the function of the local police is to "protect" citizens from crime in the same fashion the military serves to defend the nation from external threats?

Hey guess what, he is right on in that regard. By multiple supreme court rulings, the police have no legal obligation to serve or protect any individual. Their job is to catch criminals after they commit crimes, not prevent crimes from happening, or even to respond to crimes in progress.

With no military and no police, we would probably have something akin to anarchy! Our city would be controlled by gangs with guns and there would be turf wars. On the other hand I would ask why the United States has to be the international police force for the world? Shure we have a constitutional mandate for the Military to protect us from invasion from other countries like Canad or Mexico, which it is not doing by the way, but we have no mandate to invade other countries because we dont like their politics. Maybe we should just get the hell out of the Middle East and quit trying to force our will on other countries. Let the EU and Africa solve its own problems. WWII has been over for a long time, but we never brought our troops home.

If you want an example just look at the Somali Pirates. When pirates start taking over huge ships then it shows we do have a valid reason for the Military. If some country attacks our assets, then there is a real need for the military. However, we were too chicken to act and put a stop to it. If it takes us to invade a country and kill everyone we should do that to protect our shipping. Maybe for pirates we should execute them in a more brutal and public manner like completely destroying their entire village or sinking every ship in their port and then bury them with pigs.
